Looks like we will sometime soon--have a new war movie to support. This one was a black-listed movie for some unkn reason? Anyway,Paramount Studios has acquired the rights tomake it and already has many people in place to start work on it.

The movie is: Bismarck--and is about the British fight dealing with that German battleship. Im looking forward to seeing this one. The story is based on an actual mans story. This man was on a ship that was sunk--then later he was sent as a replacement on another ship--who eventually has to face the Bismarck.

Thats all I know as of now.

"Sink The Bismarck" was a bit overacted by some of the actors in it, but it's a great story, and just goes to show how vulnerable naval forces are without air cover.

I've seen a number of stories about the fight on the History and Military History channels. I remember the interviews with one of the three surviving crewmen of HMS Hood. Amazing story of survival.

Hope the project comes to fruition.

I think this was in the movie's score.

Believe it or not? I was friends with and corresponded wth the Bismarcks fourth gunnery officer. He was: Baron Burkhard Freiherr von Mullenheim-Rechburg.

BTW,he was one of few officers who never use the nazi salute either. That used to tick off some of his superiors too.

I havent heard of that one but I have a friend in production that might be able to find out. This may take awhile before he gets back with me...It almost sounds to me like its another black-listed movie...since it deals with war.

"The Great Raid" was on last night. As I recall, when it came out, some product of generations of incest and foetal alcohol syndrome condemned it as "one sided". He must have REALLY hated "Schindler's List"...

These and those bashing American Sniper--are probably the same crowd.

Anyway, ill contact my friend Tim--who is also in production and works for one of the studios and see if he can find anything out? About a year or so ago--he was the one who told me that a possible remake for: Decision Before Dawn--was in the works. This one sadly--has been shelved again.

Any war movie that is based upon actual event always has the potential for being a good movie it all depends on a lot of things; Screen play, Production design, director, actors, etc.

I'll be keepin' an eye peeled for this'n. ;)

Raeder and Doenitz, among many others, tried very hard to keep the Kriegsmarine apolitical. It cost them for influence with Hitler ingoing up against Goering.

Tiotally true. And those like: Erich Topp and Kretschmar--two of their top scoring Uboat aces--were forced to give up their membership with the nazi party if they wanted to remain serving as officers in the Kriegsmarine?

I think only three kraut sailors survived. That's from distant memory. Sometimes a bit faulty.
There were over 100 Kriegsmarines saved by British ships. However, a report was received that U Boats were in the area, and rescue operations were canceled, causing a large number of Kriegsmarines to be left stranded at sea.
