Finally got off my butt, and ordered my rear sight. When I purchased
the gun it came with a scope and no rear sight. I got a new one from
Smith Wesson. When installing the sight screw should I use blue Loctite,
or is there a torque setting? Thanks for any help.

I have installed rear sights on my 44 mag revolvers. I have never used Loctite and never torqued the screws either, just very tight. No problems yet. Don't put oil on screws or their holes.

Clean the hole and screw with solvent, then use blue LocTite and firm torque. Sometimes the screws back out during use. The blue will hold it in place, but still be easy to remove without heating.

Termite, apparently you were fortunate to have a later 629 with the rounded profile at the front of the rear sight. I purchased the same sort of scenario with an early '90's production 629 (scope mounted with no rear sight). After researching here, I found there were more than one types of rear sights among the extended/straight front edge older sights that are no longer available. Additionally, you almost need to find a seller who has an accurate caliper, so they can measure the distance between the center of the front mounting screw hole and the center of the elevation screw. Adding to the challenge is measuring your 629 for the sight when you don't have the sight...

Personally, I'd use blue Loctite on that front sight mounting screw.

to find.
