Spilled coffee on keyboard of laptop. Help.

Hardware engineer at the plant some 35 years ago wanted to ban sugar from coffee machines cause operators were spilling coffee on keyboards.

"No sugar, no problem" he claimed.

My wife said everything is backed up on the cloud, carbonite. May not have my terms straight.

Well then you're covered.

Still, when you're up and running save those 8 years of work on a $10 thumb drive. Also might consider saving important files on another computer, such as your wife's.

Hallelujah, now make sure your backed up. Check your Carbonite account files to be sure that what you think is there, really is there and that it accessible and usable/downloadable.

Don't ever want to repeat last night! No sleep. Drove to Staples. Ended up getting a keyboard and mouse off the shelf. Thank God the computer recognized these items. That allowed me to put in the password. Everything works. Thank God Almighty! Sincerely. bruce.

That's a lot anxiety suffered for a $10 thumb drive. From nearly a decade of sermons on that laptop, surely you've got one about the virtue of preparedness, right? :D

Once you know how to make copies onto the thumb/usb drive, I suggest you get a few and rotate them. That way if you have a problem, you can recover from a point not so far in the past.

IF you think it's worth doing, the keyboard on a laptop can be replaced fairly easily and not too expensively. I've done so myself. Used a google search to find a replacement keyboard for the given model, ordered one, and installed it myself in a few minutes.

Of course if the computer is more than three or four years old it's probably not worth doing. Just use the external keyboard and mouse until you replace the unit. They are much easier to use than those little laptop keyboards and track pads, anyway.

I dont know about all laptops but I had one that died so I took it apart and found that the keyboard is on top of a rubber pad that covers the insides so maybe the liquid never got inside.
