For those who know: Is the Beretta 70s 380 acp, with the frame mounted safety (a la 1911 like), safe to carry with round in the chamber and with the safety on? (ie: cocked and locked)?

I've read that these don't have an actual firing pin block, but neither does the 70's series 1911.

Are these guns safe to carry 1 up?

Thanks

You raise a valid question, and I am jogging my memory as to what I did when I had one... It may be that I didn't carry it at all, or if i did, it was with an empty chamber and de-cocked.

They are very nice guns though, I see the 380s come up for sale from time to time, and think about getting another one.

My three had the old style safety. I never used it, just carried them on half cock.

Found an owners manual online.
They say -

HIGH SPEED THUMB SAFETY. - blocking both hammer and sear when the pistol Is In full cock.
So you can carry it cocked??

This sounds like it's designed to be kept in condition 1.

It doesn't block the firing pin like a modern series 80, but it sounds like a series 70 1911 that we all like to carry condition 1.

Would we feel comfortable carrying condition 1 of these little berettas?

I would have no issue carrying one cocked and locked like a 1911 high power or similar design.
While on the subject does anyone have a source for some beretta model 71 mags? Picked up a delightful little beretta jaguar and am looking for at least one original mag! Have some triple k after markets coming for general range work but having at least one original Italian magazine is needed?
