Remington RM380

I have had Remington rifles and shotguns all my life. I think they should stick to making long guns .

I'm not liking how easy the takedown comes out(at 7:40).

Adding to what funflyer said, the manual clearly advises that the gun should not be tilted to the left when slow racking the slide, and that during firing the pin cannot come out in any position. That is because the slide action is measured in thousandths of a second and and the pin cannot move that fast no matter what tilt is on the gun. I shoot mine using the Center Axis Relock method. That requires I tilt the gun toward my non domain ant eye. In my case that is to the left. After hundreds of round I can attest to the fact that the pin does not come out.

Heavens sakes. Remington made its first handgun, the first Remington revolver in 1857, a five-shot, single-action .31 caliber
with three-inch barrel, called the the Pocket Revolver. So now they are just continuing in they tradition with different pistols. Interesting that it’s first handgun was a revolver a pocket gun with a 3 inch barrel, and its newest pistol is a pocket semi with a 2.9inch barrel. I think they are OK making handguns.

I watched that.....WOW, that would be a "deal breaker" for me. A pin falling out when you ease the slide back is not good and scary if you were depending on this as a self defense weapon. The heck with the low price...that could be life threatening.....there are too many other quality 380 pocket pistols that don't have that kind of problem for me to consider the Remington.

First why would you ease the slide back in a SD situation? It makes no sense to do that. If you keep one in the chamber, there is no need to rack at all. It is a DAO pistol so one in the chamber is safe.

Second, that video proves that the expert did not read the manual which clearly tells the use to hold the gun perpendicular to the ground when slow racking, and to tilt it to the left for takedown. It is design feature with no hazards and makes takedown easy. I have an RM 380 for months now, and the pin has never fallen out except when I want it to during takedown. Keep in mind that the experts on YouTube are often not well apprised of the things they are talking about. Find me a review froma responsible gun reviewer that fears the pin will drop out when you do not want it to. You won’t. I looked before I bought.

You buy what you want. But I'm not comfortable depending on a gun that I already know has a flaw.....Murphy's Law tells me that, even if unlikely, the pin could still find a way to come out at the worst possible moment. I'll still go with a Ruger LCP or Kahr 380...I may pay more, but at least their disassembly pins don't fall out.

The gun has no flaw. The reviewer had one in that he did not understand how the pistol is designed to be taken down. The pin is supposed to fall out when the gun is held left side down and the pin holes are lined up. That is not going to be the way anyone shoots the gun. And if they did the speed of the slide movement is too fast for the holes to align but for a thousands of a second and the pin cannot fall out in that case,

Buy a Kahr and hope the necessary two hundred rounds that have to fired through it to get it to work properly ( that is what the manual says). Check to see if it feeds the ammo you like because it won’t feed some HPs. Try to rack it with a thumb and a finger and you will be startled.

As for the LCP it is a good gun. But I want reduced recoil tso I went for a locked breech vs a blowback. And I wanted a longer barrel to improve muzzle velocity.

Reviewers don’t always get it right because they don’t do their homework. One YouTube review of the RM380 complains the slide catch is too thin and hard to release with the thumb. He misses the fact that the gun is one of the few 380pocket pistols that has a slide catch. He also did not read the manual. It states that the catch is flush to the frame to avoid it catching on fabric when pocket carried. It clearly states the slide should be released by racking the slide. Reviewers who do not start by reading the manual are incompetent.

OK I am done. Obviously I did not make my point in previous attempts and will unlikely make it now. However for those interested in a fair evaluation of the gun just Google RM 380 reviews and see if you can fins a bad one among the many dozens done by recognized reviewers, and watch out for incompetent reviewers on YouTube. There are great reviews of the gun on YouTube done by competent gun reviewers. Not had the pin drop out. They read the manual.

Some people just can't avoid the "Detroit cant". It looks so tough and gangsta. Just the sight of someone holding a gun like that will fill miscreants with fear.

Oh, and both of mine feed Hydra-Shocks just fine.

Pretty sure the LCP is a locked breech, P3AT is and well...

Yes, the LCP is and the Kahr 380s are too. My error on the LCP. Being a Ruger LC9s owner I should not have made that error. I think I confused with a Bersa Thunder. What can I say, I am getting old.

So it's official, I like the RM380 more than my Bodyguard. Fired 100 rounds of target ammo, Remington and Perfecta and 12 rounds of Ruger ARX without a hitch.

6" target from 10 yards, first 18 rounds fired. Only one off the target @12:00. It's as accurate as both my Shields and just as much fun to shoot.
