Weatherby Vanguard deluxe

I've owned a few Weatherby's of the years, currently just have two. One is an early Mark V TRR model in 308, they have a Krieger barrel and is way more accurate than I'm capable of shooting. I had a 270 Wby Mark V for a bit, but I always felt it was more gun than I needed, and expensive to shoot. The other is a Vanguard in 30-06 that was customized by Harry Lawson. It's a fine shooter, and looks good too! I'm a sucker for those Lawson thumbhole stocks though. Thinking back now oddly enough, I traded that 270 Mark V for a Ruger #1 in 7x57 with a Lawson stock.

Actually it’s a copy of Remington’s 700, not a Mauser.
You could argue that the 700 is based on the Mauser design with some cost savings such as push feed versus controlled round feeding, but I agree that the Howa follows the modern 700 more than its grandfather the Mauser.

Yep, a Howa with lipstick. They are a good rifle, but definitely not a Weatherby Mark V, the Vanguard/Howa is Weatherby’s value line. Howa has made rifles for many manufactures, e.g., Weatherby, Mossberg, S&W, to name a few. Another example is Rock Island Armory/Armscor, who makes their own 1911s as well as providing 1911s and or components to other firearms manufacturers who put their names on them.

Just for the record, Howa has also produced MkV rifles for Weatherby for some period of time.
