I'm Loving the AR15!

Before the last election, I bought two Anderson lower receivers, you know, just because. I tucked them away and pretty much forgot about them, until last year, when I decided to complete them. I should mention that I'm a complete beginner with the AR15. This is the first one I worked on. It's an Aero Precision 10" upper/barrel, and the optic is a Vortex SPARC AR. It's neither an upper-end gun or optic, but I'll have to say I'm completely satisfied with the results. My initial testing with the iron sights a couple months ago showed me it would group consistently under 2" at fifty yards, so when I bought the red dot, I was looking forward to seeing what it would do. I sighted it in just this afternoon, and I wasn't disappointed! My groups averaged just under 2", and the tiny one was the last one I shot, before I started making some pop cans bounce around.

My other AR has a PSA 16" barrel/upper with an old school scope, and I'll be posting about that one later.

It's addictive for some. I think everyone should build their own AR.

My wife loved my A1 repro but found it heavy, so "we" built her a pistol version. And she did get in and push some pins and assemble the lower.

So far I've only built lowers. My first AR I got impatient and was ready to be out shooting as soon as I finished so I ordered a CMMG upper. And that's the beauty of them, all you need to go to the FFL for is the lower, the rest can come by mail carrier.

I own several in .223 as well as a few in 9mm, including this AR 9mm pistol and Colt carbine.

I also like the early A1 style AR-15s in both slick side and forward assist flavors. The A1 had much better balance and feel than the A2 - and I hated giving up my issued A1 for an A2 just as much as I hated giving up the 1911 for the M9.

In terms of light weight this one weighs 5.7 pounds empty and it's about as light as you can get with aluminum uppers and lowers.

i got the AR bug as well - my first one was the M&P Sport II that i changed quite a bit on - then came the PSA and the Sig AR10 both unfired - also have 3 Aero lowers - first one is going to be a 5.56 pistol build - i enjoy customizing them

Have a few; my last build was in .50 Beo - now that it a ton of fun; 335 gr Rainier (sp?) HP on top of healthy charge of 2400 just turns watermelons into mist

I can second your recommendation.
One of my bucket list things is a prairie dog hunt, so I went and bought a CZ527 Varmint in .223/5.56 NATO, 1:9 twist, with a 25.5" heavy barrel, and a trigger and set trigger adjustable for pull, travel and overtravel.

I'm working on come ups and windage data for it using factory .223 and 5.56 for starters. Reloads come later after it's more familiar to me. It's trigger is crisp, easily adjustable, and has a set trigger as well.
The only con so far is the crappy 5 shot magazine, which is hard to fill and scratches the daylights out of my brass even after stoning the rough edges off it. At the range, I single feed it off the bench.
So far, even with the cheap Wolf Gold, it's headed for a one minute gun as soon as I get dialed to it.
Target in pic is 50 yds. Once I chrono the load, I'll move to 100 yds and zero it for 250 yds. The group on the right isn't way off. I used the corner of the half bull for an aiming point rather than walk downrange to post a new target.

The scope is a Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 with MOA reticle. It's very bright, nice clear, fine reticle, easy to adjust.
The green thing is a poor man's cheek rest made of foam pipe insulation and vet wrap to get my eye centered on the scope.

Except for the annoying magazine, it's a super gun for the money, accurate, smooth, no recoil, fun to shoot.

I bought a CZ 5.56/.223 several years ago and have shot it extensively. Very accurate with just about anything, though I can't recall if I ever shot any of the cheap bulk ammo that really doesn't shoot well in anything.

The CZs are a lot of gun for the money and I really like the set trigger system. I have Colt ARs, but can't imagine what they can do better than the CZ except shoot a bit faster. I'm going to avoid front yard warrioring, so fast shooting and big magazines don't really mean much.
