I had the opportunity yesterday to shoot and amazing pistol. A friend bought an EAA Tanfoglio Witness P Match Pro in .38 Super off gunbroker. He fired most of a box of Federal American Eagle 9 mm 130 grain FMJ (+P). He handed me the pistol with the last seven shots in it. He was aiming center bull, so did I (stupid mistake on my part as our eyes see the sights differently). The shot on the ring at 12 o'clock is my first round. I then shifted my aim point to the 6 o'clock position. I was impressed by the accuracy. The trigger needs work, rough and about 4 pounds. Might have to look for one of these.

It was pretty surprising. Fit and finish was very good. The only complaint of mine was the trigger.

With modern design and engineering, it's quite hard to find a brand new gun that doesn't have nice fit and finish, and I include most polymer guns in that statement.

Just looked up the specs. It has a polymer frame. So won't be getting one. Shoots well, so for those that like polymer frames I would say get one.

I have a Witness with the steel frame, but not the match model. It's set up to use .45 ACP, 9mm, and .38 Super. I bought it over 15 years ago and it is one of my favorites. I did some trigger work on it myself. My only problem is that it is quite heavy. Some may remember the old Bren Ten. That Witness is about as close to it as you can find.

The EAA Witness is a nice gun and the CZ 75 is a great platform to begin with. If you want a clone of the CZ75 with a really good trigger, the old Sphinx has an amazing trigger. When I compared an EAA 9mm, SP-01 and AT2000S side by side, the AT2000S won hands down.

Just a wee bit of difference in price.

Tanfoglio can make good firearms, the U.S. importer, EAA, developed a history of poor customer support, making many shy away from these pistols. Some shops even refuse to carry them. My only experience, so far, has been with a TZ-75 Series 88. It's big issue was the recoil spring and U.S. made ammo. It ran fine with +P and European ammo, but U.S. made 115 and 124 grain "white box" ammo was a consistent failure. I put in a Wolff recoil spring that was 2 pounds lighter and the pistol became reliable with the cheap ammo. Evidently, Tanfoglio set up these older 9mm pistols for European 9mm ammo.

...or as some of us call it, proper 9mm ammo.:)

They (EAA) were (at least back when I used them) very customer-hostile, especially the owner, whose name I can't remember. A very nasty and belittling person.

I bought a Russian Toggle Bolt .22 rifle from them way back when. Good rifle then they lost the importation rights and never dealt with them again.

I bought a steel frame Witness 10 or 12 years ago as a .45 ACP/.22 LR combo. About 2 years ago I came across a complete upper in .38 Super. If I ever decided to carry a semi-auto belt gun again it would be the Witness as .38 Super. As it is it is my favorite range gun.

Sorta like Kimber's owner(s), huh?
I love my Witness Compact 10mm, glad I didn't hear this before or I probably wouldn't have bought it?
