Ruger Bisley Range Report

I shot the Ruger Bisley .357 Magnum that I got from member sshakrr.

Gun in excellent to like new condition. No issues with it whatsoever. I will paint the front sight, that's something I do to all my revolvers that don't come from the factory with it.

50 feet indoors, two handed grip. 25 shots fired in 5 - 5rd strings. Fiocci 125gr SJHP (the indoor range prohibits Magnum calibers).

I think that I did ok with it. The painted front sight and practice will tighten up those groups.

I'm sure you'll love it. I have four of them and they are all great, especially when you perform the "poor boy's trigger job".

Nice shooting with a nice gun! I bet it will soon become a favorite.

I don't get along with "ordinary" Ruger single actions. The grip frame doesn't fit my paws. But a Ruger Bisley is perfect! I only have one, a 44 Special. It's accurate and it fits me well.

Someday, I'll be in the right place at the right time with money in my pocket, and I'll snag a .357 like yours. You made a good score!

I have a 44 Magnum and a 45 Colt as well.

What is the "poor boy's trigger job"?

Nice I have a .327 FM, 6". Had but traded the 5" Blue version of same.(GP100s). I don't know what that Poor boy's is, but I bought Wolf spring kits for both. I just went One spring range lighter with the trigger and hammer springs and the 6" actually has a little lighter trigger pull in both single & double actions than my 629-6. Little lighter. I don't know how your gun's trigger assembly is compared to the GPs, but they were pretty easy to get apart; and after several bandaids, back together. Had to clean off all the edges with some light sand cloth. I didn't do the polishing like they always do, but I'm happy. Probably will never have to take it apart again.

The PBTJ -- remove grips, lift one leg of the trigger return spring from its seat and just let it dangle. Replace grips. It makes quite a difference, and the Bisley I own had it done 20 years and about 2000 rounds ago with no ill effects yet.

My Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt performs quite well. My only problem with the Vaqueros is the indexing system for loading and reloading. I modified both of mine with a Ron Power kit that allows indexing the cylinder from half-cock like the original Colts. Now the chambers index and line up with the ejection rod properly, saving time on loading and reloading. The ability to load and carry six rounds safely is unaffected. Here you see my Bisley below the standard model. Both can fire heavily loaded .45 Colt cartridges with aplomb.

Very accurate. I had not had any handguns in 45Colt for many yrs.
I 'rediscovered' the 45Colt with this one and it has become a favorite

In 1992 I bought a like new 45 Colt, 5.5" Blue Bisley for $149. Complete with box, papers and yellow disk. 1995 I bought its twin for $159. In 1997 I started shooting Cowboy Action at local SASS matches. My only modifications are, I installed the "Power Paw, and Power's spring kit. The paw allows the cylinder to be indexed backward for "on-the-clock" 6th shot loading. I love these guns! I also have a pair of 4" Stainless Vaqueros that are unaltered I bought used in 2003 for $400 each. Unaltered, I let my adult sons borrow these and shoot Black Powder loads in them. The spring kit and Power Paw are good for 4 to 8 seconds a scenario.

Longest match shots I ever took with the Bisley's, was 25 yards at a 4" round steel plate. No 5 second penalty for a miss and a 5 second bonus for a hit, all on the clock. I hit all 5 and got the bonus of Minus 25 seconds. I felt really good! Until the teenagers got up to shoot! (The nationally #1 teen Girl and 3/5 Top boys shot at our club then) They all shot the 10 handgun, 10 rifle, & 4 shotgun rounds at around 15 seconds! with the bonus, their scores went down 10 seconds! Never said I was good but have said I sure have fun!
