Here’s a couple of Colt 1911’s I picked up over the past couple of years. The Delta Elite 10mm is a 1989 mfg and the Combat Elite 45 ACP is 1988 mfg. Both obtained off GB. Delta Elite for $1200 and the Combat Elite $680.
I had been wanting a Colt Delta Elite for sentimental reasons since it was my first duty gun, and mine had been stolen years ago. Back when I started the sheriff’s academy, the issue gun was a S&W M13 357 revolver but that year they authorized carrying a personally owned semiauto as long as it was on the department’s authorized list, and the only semiauto I owned back then was a Colt Delta Elite 10mm and it was approved.
Since I was familiar with the 1911A1 from my time in the Marines, I decided to use the Colt Delta Elite 10mm. I was the only recruit deputy in the academy carrying a cocked & locked 1911. It served me well, 100 % reliable with thousands of rounds. The issue ammo was 180 Winchester subsonic.
The rangemaster used to complain about the department having to purchase the ammo, I was one of 2 or 3 deputies on the department using a 10mm and the department had to supply the ammo!
Of course this Colt Combat Elite 45 ACP is of the same era. These guns take one back to a different place and time. Today will be a good day to go out back and do a little target shooting.
