Your choice on a hicap 9mm compact ( ** New Reply** )

I've seen a lot of good guns in that category come out in the last 5 years or so, but none have made me think about trading my Sig P365. If I was starting from scratch, I'd have a hard time not going with a P365X, but I'd take a hard look at the Hellcat.

I bought a Sig P365 in the spring of 2018 and in my opinion I’ve not found anything that I like better or even like as well as my P365. As several people have said above, there has been a slew of high capacity 9mm pistols in the last several years. I decided to try the Springfield Hellcat Pro and installed the Apex Trigger as soon as it was available and even the Wasp Red Dot. I don’t like the Hellcat Pro near as well as my Sig P365. I keep carrying my Sig P365.

Unless the micro 9mm's have a 4" barrel (+/-) and 15 rounds in the standard magazine, I don't consider them to be Compacts.

For true Compacts, my choices are:
  1. Beretta APX
  2. HK P30
  3. CZ 75 Compact/P01/PCR
  4. Beretta PX4

You want a double stack compact 9mm the obvious choice is the Glock 19. Their best selling model I believe. I have one but to me it is closer to being a full size gun in my smallish hands. The best compact hi cap 9mm available is the Glock 26. Ten + 1 or use model 19 mags. Has the same tested rugged durability as the larger models. The 26 was Gen 3 from the beginning. No problems like the trouble prone Sigs.

Your worried about picking the right high cap mags when you should be finding the right handgun and then practicing mag changes !!

So awake up and figure out what your shoot the best . Don't be a spray and pray type shooter .

Oh there's a heck of a difference in size between a g19 and a p365 too .

Just a bit harsh, don't you think?

I admit I'm mired in the 20th century..................

That said ..... If I "feel/think" that I may/will find the need for more than the 8+1 in my 3913 plus one or two spare mags then I want a small duty size handgun [or long gun]

S&W 6906/PC Shorty-9 12+1...... spare mag is 15 w/+2 adaptor
Beretta 92 Compact 15+1 spare mags are 18 w/ Farrar grip adaptors
Beretta 92 Centurion 18+1 spare mags are 18/20

I've carried all successfully concealed since the late 1980s in Milt Sparks Summer Special or Executive Companion IWB holsters.

Just a bit harsh ? Well when your looking at a glock 19 , a p229 and a p365 you are looking at a W I D E variation of weights and size but at least the P365 come in several sizes and capacity's now .

Your question also seems like something a first timer or at least a novice to CC handguns would ask .

Some indoor ranges that have rentals may lket you shoot several handguns for one fee if slow . You will have to buy there ammo most times but at least you may get to try the handguns your interested in .

I did not mention a handgun as that is a personal choice and most any 15 shot 4" barrel pistol or less will make a good CC handguns , The p365 base model is a 10 round version with a 3.1 barrel while the 17 round versions is the P365X Macro with a 3.7" barrel and full grip all while it's lighter , thinner and shorter than a G19 but it is taller by only .16 of an inch . Now make an effort to refine your choices hopefully after some range time .

You can also check out handguns for size comparisons as specs are not always right at Handgun Hero .

IMHO a Sig P365 carried with a 10+1 capacity with a back up mag of 15rnds is ideal. The 10 round mag affords great concealability and light weight while carrying a 15 round back up mag isn't much more trouble as long as it is in a mag pouch. For those days where pocket carry is used a 10 or 12 round back up mag. in the pocket isn't a big deal.

You can get a cheap soft eyeglass holder (from Costco) and it can be shortened to length as needed. This makes pocket carry more comfortable.

You're fun at parties aren't you? Or, parties are usually fun until you arrive.

I'll second the mention of the CZ 2075 RAMI. 14 plus 1 or 10 plus 1 capacity (depending on your state). It is a solid little brick. The weight feels better in my hand absorbing recoil then it does at my belt pulling my pants down. I deal with it. It's the only semi auto 9mm in my EDC rotation.

While I do not consider a Glock 19 to be a compact, I have handled and shot 3 popular ones in a single outing. The Hellcat, 365 and Kahr. The Kahr was slightly more concealable but not enough to give up the xtra rounds. The Hellcats Xtra capacity is its claim to fame. I also liked the sights on it although they are not everyone’s cup of tea. I ultimately bought a 365. Perfect combo of size and capacity.

We all like to help spend someone else’s money. :D (I’m guilty, too.) My own choice is the P365 with thumb safety. As was said earlier, if I wasn’t already committed, I’d probably buy one of the models with the slightly longer grip - not for additional capacity but rather because it fits my hand much better.

I like the XL model in general, but I dislike its flat-face trigger. It appears SIG thinks that is a minority view since these days it looks like most of the P365 models come with that trigger. :o

(Edit) Re the compact/subcompact/micro-compact labeling thing, that is just a marketing theme. :D I don’t see a lot of difference in convenience of carrying a pistol when it gets much bigger and heavier than a 3913. G19/P228s are pretty much full-size guns, as far as I’m concerned. Big and heavy - when fully loaded. My preference is small and light, with a reasonable ammo capacity. I would still be happy with an Airweight Chief, but the 365 (1) carries more easily and (2) is more accurate in my hands. Those things offset the additional weight of the 365 v. the Chief. The next step down is one of the tiny .380s.

Well, I have a G19, but... Does it just HAVE to be in 9mm?

If you are talking about my favorite hi-cap Compact my M&P 40C with the 357 SIG conversion barrel would be my choice...

Cheers!

P.S. Now that I ponder it further, since I also have the 40/9mm conversion barrel (and the appropriate mags as well) I may only be cheating a little bit: M&P 40s are one of the best platforms out there for the easy ability to get the "best of both (actually THREE!) worlds"...
