New Car Time Anyone Have Any Feedback On Toyota Crown Signia

We got a ‘24 RAV4 two weeks ago, traded our ‘13 Avalon w/100+K, and pretty happy so far. We’re both in our late 70s so this is probably the last car for us.

That's an excellent video on the hybrids @IAM Rand.

Something he mentioned was the starting & stopping being hard on a hybrid engine.

Most new cars have an auto engine stop when you stop at a light or stop sign. Then the engine restart when you take your foot off the brake. This will increase your MPG.

How many starters will one of the cars go through in a lifetime? Starters + labor ain't cheap, IMO.

Start/stop technology has been around for several generations of vehicle now, and excessive starter wear hasn’t been an issue.

Many hybrids don’t have a conventional starter, either. The assist motor does double duty as propulsion and starter.

It's really not an issue. I haven't seen a starter failure on a vehicle of mine since the 1980s. I've had four vehicles now with the start stop feature. The only thing I'll say is MAYBE the batteries don't last quite as long as they do on other vehicles. It's hard to be certain because of the general variability in battery life.

IMO, I don't need to add one more thing to worry about nor have to repair on my vehicle(s). Doesn't matter if it's the battery, the starter or turbo. I prefer both simplicity and reliability in my vehicles. Which is why my motorcycle is a BMW................... :D :D :D

$$ spent on car repairs is $$ that can't be spent on ammo and/or new guns, IMO.

My .o2

I would certainly consider a Crown Signia. I like that it's more like a luxury station wagon than boxy SUV and the fact it is manufactured in Japan. Here's a pretty comprehensive review of it.

Either Toyota, no turbos, skip the hybrid
We went with a subaru forester premium (start stop has a button to disable)

My daily driver is an Toyota FJ Cruiser I bought new in 2008. It will turn over 275,000 miles in the next week or two. I has had zero technical issues. It shares the drive train of the older 4Runners.

If and when it dies I will try to find a pre 2025 4Runner to replace it. The old V6 is bullet proof but who knows how the new engine will do.

Had a 2019 Avalon Limited Hybrid, now drive a 2022 Highlander Limited Hybrid, very pleased with both of them and zero issues other than a recall.

Enough power, both very comfortable and practical. Toyota was kind of the pioneer on Hybrids, highly recommend them.

Same for my 2024 Highlander Hybrid; a very good vehicle.

My sister and her hubby have had several Toyotas, all Camrys IIRC. All of them have gone over 200K miles with no real problems. My best guess is that if you get a model that has been out for a year and debugged, you will do well.

We are on our 3rd and 4th Subarus. My wife's first one was before the fix to the head problems, and her use pattern was much harsher than mine. MY 2011 got an oil change monthly due to the miles I put on it commuting. Almost all were highway miles and it got to 187K before I traded, with only regular maintenance and a clutch replacement. With the 6 speed manual, I got way better mileage than my wife did.
