Recently one of my coworkers showed me a knife that a local knife maker had made for him. He called it a fixed blade pocket knife and I was pretty intrigued by it. Seems I'm always a sucker for trying new technology flashlights and different kinds of carry knives, so I asked him for the info so I could reach out to the knife maker and talk to him about making one for me.

After making contact with the knife maker and talking through the options he could do for me he said he had a few projects ahead of me but could have it ready for me in a couple of weeks. Sure enough, just short of two weeks he reached out to me and said it was ready. Mine has a bone handle with a blackened blade and it handily clips inside my trouser pocket just like many folding knives do.

I'm going to give it a try and see how I like carrying a fixed blade pocket knife.

I like it!

Looking at it, I have some sheath knives that size or not much larger. Maybe I'll see if I can find someone to make a sheath for one of them with a clip for the pocket like yours...

Also like me some pocket carry fix blades.
The tradeoff is total length vs handle length vs blade length.
I also favor kydex or other plastic sheaths.
And hilt out or full concealed?
One of my favs is a Bark River PSK in Kydex, with a cord.
Another fav is Mora Eldris.
I like it so much that my Guys- Son, SIL and Grandson are all getting one.
Here’s mine.

I like it.

I have bought a good many small fixed blade knives from Joel Green, Grit City Knives. He is not on FB anymore but you can find him on instagram if you are so inclined.

Nice looking knife. I like the size and looks, but I would be mighty uncomfortable with a fixed blade in a leather sheath in my pocket. Knowing me I would find some way to have that thing stab me in my leg or worse my privates .

Don

Carrying a sheathed fixed blade in your pocket is no problem. You've never experienced true excitement in life, though, until you have an automatic knife pop open in your front pocket unexpectedly.

Knives Ship Free used to sell a back pocket sheath for a small fixed blade. They still might.

Yes they do, in 5” and 6” overall length. It works better as a back pocket carry since it doesn’t have a clip. It fits my Northwoods (made by Bark River knives) perfectly. And a lot of other makers do make them with a clip.

I’ve carried a fixed blade pocket knife for years. It can be accessed and put to use with one hand, which is important if your other hand is occupied defending against a threat.

I have a couple Benchmade Hidden Canyon knives (old and new model, in the middle) and while the sheaths are almost useless, kydex gives you a lot of options and mine are made to use UltiClips.

How hidden and or accessible it is can be adjusted by how you position the clip on your pocket.

Like several of you, I've also carried fixed blade pocket knives for years (10? 15?) - I have a couple wallet sheaths from Amazon for the purpose that fit various knives I have.

Here's one similar to my neighbor, The Pilgrim's

If I'm honest with myself, though, I like the idea of it better than the practice of it. I just find it easier and less obtrusive to carry a folder - even a large one. And I find the folders actually quite a bit faster to get into action than the must-be-tight-in-the-pocket-sheath-for-safety fixed blades.

A little fixed blade is so classy, though. Seems like the kind of thing I should wear for dress-up occasions.

Just a random photo of one of mine
