Let's see your Law Enforcement Marked Smiths!

I’ve posted this one, before.
But, since you asked…

-Bill

NYSP Highway Patrolman,
Marked on Frame Above Trigger

Is that one in the N546xxx range, indicating the M28-2's that were taken instead of the cancelled M520?

This one was supposed to go to NYSP but NY canceled.
Where is that one in the serial range of the 520's?

North Carolina State Highway Patrol 50th Anniversary Commemorative
SN on yours? just the partial, looking to see how close we are, and what is the unit # on the other side?

You've got some awesome LE guns, the Caldwell Sheriff gun is really cool (I live about 20 miles from Lenoir), and my cousin would have a cow seeing all those ALE guns. He was an ALE officer for a couple of years, but it was too political for him.

My only LE-associated guns are another M520 that didn't quite make it, and another 50th Anniv. NCHP Commemorative, #0835.

S&W Military and Police Model of 1905 Fourth change shipped to Morgantown (VA.) Police Dept. Att:Chief C.W. Smith. Non-original grips, but those were probably worn out. Lots of holster wear, and not sure which officer thought he needed the hump back hammer, but maybe it was the chief. Shipped 12/30/38 and not marked as PD, but has been lettered.

A gun show friend showed me this a while ago. He got it from an estate and it is for sale. I don't know if he still has it but if anyone wants it I can put you in touch.

There hasn't been a Morgantown in Virginia since Abe Lincoln "stole" Western Virginia from Virginia in 1863.

If your letter is current, you may be able to have it corrected to Morgantown, WEST Virginia.

Got 2 oldies. Both marked and have letters. 1930 Regulation Police marked and shipped to the Chelsea, MA PD. in 1930, and a US Maritime Victory shipped to the Boston PD after the war. It too is marked and lettered. Bought these as I was born there. Big Larry

This one was supposed to go to NYSP but NY canceled.

And a Austin PD Heavy Duty that belonged to my old gun show partner. RIP. Refirbed under contract by S&W.

There is an interesting story behind the cancellation of the 520 for the NYSP. The troopers had been using the Model 10-6 in .357 Magnum that S&W made especially for them. When that model became a hit, the Model 13 was born. But the troopers qualified with their duty .357 ammo and it became apparent that the K frame .357's weren't up to the task of full time full power .357, so they asked S&W to make them a fixed sighted .357 in the N frame. S&W began to produce the gun but told the troopers it would be 6 months to take possession of the guns, so the troopers canceled the order and went with the 28-2. They didn't want the adjustable sights but they had to deal with it. When the L frame came around, S&W dumped the 28-2 for the 681.

The NYSP marked their duty guns, but for some reason the Model 10-6's never got the stamp, so people find a 10-6 in .357 and assume it's a trooper gun, but it isn't always a trooper gun.
