The last owner was Mr. Charlie Hu, a Chinese immigrant born in 1946, who owned it from 1995-2020. Tough gentleman, but he had to close the shop because he could not make ends meet when Covid hit NYC. I understand that a wood carving shop is there now, and the artists was going to save for posterity the revolver hanging at the entrance to the shop.

Those were the good old days. I remember most of them. Gun shows when they had guns and ammo at good prices. Once bought a Mod 92 25-20 carbine for 25 bucks, took it home & cleaned it up sold it for 40 bucks the next show. Thought I was making real money. Gosh, how times have changed.

I'm sorry Sir, but I'm a bit confused (I'm an old guy, too :-) but, are you talking about the John Jovino gun shop in NYC?

When I was much younger and lived in NY I would love to gaze at Jovino's stock that he carried in the store. On several occasions when I had to visit NYPD Headquarters for my CCW permit (that is another whole story for another thread) I'd pop by and take a look as well.

great thread and enjoyed the photos. I have a couple of JJCO Australian import rifles (SMLEs, not S&W).

In the listing on products on the letterhead I appreciated "Black Jacks" followed by "Clubs - All Kinds". Ah, the good old days.

We seem to be missing photos of great competitor and friendly neighbor Siles Gun Shop back when Jon Jovino and Siles were both located on Centre Market Place the famous "Iron Alley" in the shadow of the original NYPD Police Headquarters. That big wooden prop the Revolver is an iconic symbol of Jovino's has been featured in many movies including an episode of Law & Order as well.
As a young lad growing up in NYC, I remember when the original Godfather movie filmed in Little Italy and all the young girls waiting to catch a glimpse of rising star Al Pacino. Great times & great memories.
I know chief38 has very vivid memories of the Downtown Manhattan scene as well from our discussions. Just a walk down memory lane...
