Welcome to the Forum. You have a very early 32 Safety, 1st Model revolver. This model was made from 1888 to 1902 and that revolver could have shipped somewhere around 1889 - 1890. Detailed photos are needed to assess the engraving, but could well be high grade factory applied with a gold washed cylinder. Might be a candidate for a factory historical letter, since distributors did not often order engraved revolvers and may have been ordered by an individual directly from the factory.

Detail #1: It's drop dead gorgeous!!

There are no more details-----none worth talking about anyway.

Ralph Tremaine

An afterthought: ALL S&W collectibles are candidates for, and worthy of a letter. I lettered every single gun in my collection. Not all of the letters proved to be worthy, but you never know that until after the letter arrives. One of those letters was on a gun I'd paid $3700 for. The content of the letter was such that the gun sold for not quite three times that much during the liquidation of my collection---after I decided it would be best to leave behind a pile of money rather than a pile of guns. I reckon that letter paid for all the other letters---and then some!

Thank you for the info!
I’m new to this and can’t figure how to add pictures.
I’ll research how to get a letter and find some history to this.
With a serial number 12300, I’m hoping it’s something interesting.

Thanks for the leads and info!!

Here is the link to order a letter of authenticity:

swhistoricalfoundation.com/letters/

The first is for the letter, and the second for the "deep dive" into the available factory archived information. Usually the first letter will suggest a request for the second if the Historian thinks more information may be available.
