15-22 Magazines failing?

If the OP is using Armscore ammo, that is probably the source of his problem. It is so greasy/waxy mags get gunked up quickly.

Guess I'll stick with tried and true Ruger 10/22. I must have 10 standard 10-round magazines from the early 80's that are still going strong. They have never failed and the rifle is as reliable as it was when new in 1981. Now I use them in a newer 2014 Ruger American Rimfire.

I'm pretty sure they won't work at all in a 15-22. :p

Just got two 25 round replacements back, after the originals failed with less than 50 rounds through them, and they are both bad. Large gap between the halves and movement when pressed. If there is any QA these should not have passed. I saw somewhere that they had changed manufacturers. Looks like that was a huge mistake. Not good for S&W's reputation. I have requested a return label for the new ones and a refund. Have not yet used the 10 rounders I got at the time for bench shooting but the gap on them looked like my old mags. Will have to make do with my 5 trusty old mags.

Anyone else having problems with 15-22 mags failing. I've had S&W replace 8 mags so far. Yes I own that many) I've noticed it doesn't matter if is 25 rnd or 10 rnd. Black or FDE, they all will have the follower start getting stuck about 1/2 thru. I've cleaned and oiled very well. Still fails. fortunately S&W will replace upon request. But it's about a 6 to 8 week turn around. I think most of that is because of supply issues.
same here. 12 failures. A couple were worn feed-lips, so angle of cartridge was too high. The others were all swollen in the curve, causing the follower to stick. I believe it is heat related, as they all fail this time of year after running all winter.
Yes, S&W does replace them, but still a pain, especially during matches. A harder polymer or steel would probably cure the problem, but S&W has shown no interest in an upgrade.

You are correct my friend. After I stopped using Armscore and switched to Aguila. Only a couple cents more per round, but 100 times cleaner! AND no more failures!

I had 6 of the 25 rounders, shooting about 500 rounds a month for Steel Challenge. Used CCI MiniMags only. over time, I was having some of the mags where the follower would get stuck about half way. Read (I don't recall where) that they can warp at times.

I switched to 10 rounders, which are much stiffer, and have not had any issues with the follower sticking.

YMMV

If you run them long enough, You will develop dents in the back area of the feed lips where the rim of the cartridge contacts. I've replaced 4 from that defect. Failure is cartridge sticking straight up. I give loaded mag a quick spray with Hornaday One Shot right on the projos.

I've had my 15-22 just over nine years. I shoot steel matches four or five times a month in the summer; less frequently in the winter. I have more than 40k rounds through it and it still functions perfectly. (I have replaced a hammer spring and a firing pin in that time, but that's no big deal -- S&W sent them at no cost. And I have run with a Volquartsen extractor from day one.)

However, in that time I have worn out the lips on five 25-round magazines. I've kept them running by building up the worn lips with J-B Weld. They work, but I didn't trust them. So, this morning I called S&W CS and asked if they'd replace them after all this time. Without a moment's pause Jason said "sure" and asked for my email address so he could send me return instructions. I've just returned from the post office after sending off the old, worn magazines . . .

What a great company to deal with.
