Where did the 24 hour diner go?

Another change is many/most all truck stops just offer fast food. I miss those big "anytime" breakfasts when I travel.

Thinking about this, there is also the idea that many more motels are offering a breakfast. Some will have a sack pickup of you leave as early as 5:00 AM. Something quick isn't nearly as good as a sit down breakfast but it's paid for already and you don't have to wait for it.

When I was a kid and would go to work with my father, he would always stop for breakfast at the Manhattan diner on 22nd and 10th Ave, his business being on 22nd and 12th. Usually around 5AM and the place was loaded with cops and taxi drivers. It was one of Manhattans few 24 hour diners. It is still in existence, more or less, a bit more froo froo than back then and now called the Empire diner but the bones of the old place are still there and you can see some of it in the photo.
