Dan Wesson Range Day

DW made a great revolver. My first law enforcement duty gun was a Dan Wesson. After I sold it for a Gold Cup, I missed it later and eventually bought a Pistol Pack. Love it, but hate to shoot it as it has not been fired, so I bought another just to shoot. I have watched these for a long time, and Pistol Pack value is really dependent on condition. Last year, when a friend I sold an extra one I had wanted to sell his, I researched and found that the average sales in good condition, were in the low $3k range. He still has his if anyone is looking for a nice one, 4 barrel set. Hit me up if you are interested.

Then, in your opinion, this set with 4 barrels should be a fair deal for the 1300 eu (around 1400 $) the seller is asking?

I'm far from a DW expert, but...

It looks like that one includes the 2", 3" 4" & 6" barrels. I believe it is missing the 5" barrel for the complete set. It is also in a non-original case (the original had a yellow lining).

IMO, $1300 wouldn't be a bad price for that set, as pictured, but you'd still need to spend a few more $$ for the 5" barrel and the original case if your goal is to have a "complete" set.

Keep in mind that those two items aren't going to be very easy to find, and it isn't likey that either of them will be cheap.

All that being said, $1300 seems like a reasonable price for what is shown in the picture, assuming everything is in good shape.

JMO, and YMMV...

When I was a kid, I used to regularly spend my allowance money on Gun magazines. I always thought the Dan Wesson Pistol Pack was a great concept, and made for a good looking advertisement.

One of the coolest Dan Wessons (at least for silhouette) was the 375 SUPERMAG. That is not a typo, ie: 375, not 357!
The idea was to use ballistically superior 375 cal. rifle bullets at moderate (1200+ fps) for flat trajectory, excellent target impact, and moderate recoil.
After trying one, I felt it was the best of the Supermag cartridges.

See attached for more info.

I got my first Dan Wesson nearly 20 years ago. A 744 with a 6” barrel. Some time later I bought an 8” ported barrel and heavy, vented rib barrel for it. For some reason I didn’t install the 8” barrel until recently. It weighs just a tiny bit less than 4 pounds in this configuration:

Within the last month I learned that you should NOT shoot lead bullets through a ported barrel. After fewer than 50 shots, I barely got the shroud off and there was melted lead just ahead of the ports on the barrel itself (inside shroud). Ended up using a soldering iron to melt the lead off… it was that thick. The good news is that CZ still has an inventory of barrels that fit even the early Monson models, so now I have a non-ported 8” barrel inside the same monstrously heavy shroud.

Late last year, I bought a 15-2 that came with both 4” and a 6” heavy barrel.

First, it was spitting lead out of the cylinder gap. Simply tightening the barrel correctly to a .006” cylinder gap cured that. Then I got multiple light primer strikes. The Dan Wesson forum is nearly a zombie, but I found what I needed to know. A couple of washers on the grip screw backed it out enough to stop interfering with the hammer. Don’t ask - that’s just the way it is.

Finally, I got this beautiful 715 VH8 some years ago. It is a shooter for sure!

Another thing to keep in mind with the ported barrels is the potential for serious rust! Because of the two piece construction, the heat difference between the barrel and the shroud, combined with circumstances of air temperature and humidity, can cause moisture condensation to occur between the external part of the barrel and the inner part of the shroud.
Use anti-seize compound on the barrel and nut threads and take it all apart after each range trip!

Production was established at Monson, MA in an old schoolhouse.
This is the location where all the renowned classic Dan Wessons were built, from the 357 Pistol Packs through their Glory Years winning all the IHMSA Silhouette revolver matches. The big cannons all were introduced at Monson: 44 Magnum, 41 Magnum, 45 Colt, and all the SuperMags.
Financial reorganization led to a change of locale to Palmer, MA in 1992. In 1996, the first company buy-out happened and they moved to NY state.

You’ve probably guessed already that “Monson made” Dan Wessons are considered the most desirable.
Attached is an early ad talking about the Monson schoolhouse.

My questio has to do with an answer I received on a Dan Wesson on "GunBrokers". Cragslist answered my question of the city/country of manufacture that it was manufactured in Mexico.

Beware of Craigslist and the advice given.

You want sight radius?
THIS is sight radius! ;)

Custom ordered Hämmerli 160 free pistol. Intended for the UK market when various gun bans were coming into effect. This one was in response to minimum requirements for both overall length and barrel length.
That is a 23+” barrel!!

I wonder if the order included a holster!! :)
