That's awesome. Congratulations.
Nice. That one shipped on October 3, 1952. It was the second of four shipments and included 225 units. The final shipment of 30 units left Springfield on October 13, 1953.I always thought 5” K-frame guns are wonderful. Here is a MO HP gun, well worn but functioning perfectly. All numbers match except for the grips.
People have called the K-38 Masterpiece that, but "Target" was never part of the official name. The SCSW through the Third Edition perpetuated the myth, but we were able to get that fixed, starting with the 4th Edition. The gold boxes (the first style used when the K-38 was introduced in 1947) stated, "K-38 Masterpiece" and "a target revolver." But the model was never the "Target Masterpiece."Had a K-38 years ago. I could have sworn mine was called "Target Masterpiece" but memory is muddied by many years.
So, I guess we overlapped. I went over in 1970. Extended through the Easter Offensive in 1972 (supporting An Loc, among other places) and came back to the World in the autumn of 1972, towards the end of Operation Linebacker. Almost got sent back for Linebacker II, but fortunately that didn't happen. Two years was enough.I flew with the 1st AVN BDE in 1971 Vietnam. I believe it was with the 3/17th Cav. I ended my tour with the 1/9th Cav (F Troop).
I got home July, 1970. A short time later was Operation Lam Son 719, probably the deadliest operations for Army helicopters. I'm glad I missed that one.So, I guess we overlapped. I went over in 1970. WELCOME HOME!
