Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

I tried to avoid those places. I had an aversion to Corpsman and large needle to fix the aftereffects!

Also I have to agree with Winston. Was lucky and never got a Purple Heart!

We had an expression when I was in "shot at and missed, s*** on and hit". Did get rocket attacked a lot. Once on guard duty about zero dark thirty something hit awfully close to the bunker. Got my attention real quick. It sounded like the rounds hitting the dirt at the rifle range.

Oh the fun we had

Did you catch the 1971, Christmas Day, Bob Hope show in Long Bien?
I was attending a factory school for ECM at Atsugi, Japan in 1966 and there was no Christmas show. I did see the Bob Hope show at Chu Lai in 1967. They trucked in a lot of Army guys. The Americal Division built a really nice theater area. We went to see the girls.

Oh the fun we had.

Have been rocketed, mortared and shot at............was lucky they missed me every time. No describing getting your heart started by someone shooting at you!!

I missed a Bob Hope Show by a week in 1972. I had a choice stick around and see Bob Hope or go home. Home won out!! I did see the pictures in my Cruise Book they sent me a few months later.

This may be unfair to those in the Air Force. But from those in the other services looking in, it sure seems that way.View attachment 754511
The whole USAF thing skipped a generation with me. Dad retired in 1968 and son earlier this year as the third generation combat pilot. None of us had much desk time So I don't know about the above. The next generation? Hummmm.pilot.jpguntitled_36.jpg

They way we were treated by the USAF was as if they were a club and we were outsiders. Have seen this in RVN, Okie and the States. So this was not just in one place.

Standing up for my Air Force here, but if we are club the Marines are gang. Either way you need to be a member. ;). In good humor my friend.

Side note I couldn't find an emoji link in this new format.

When I drove to our contact team in Saigon / MACV always made a trip to the Air Force club at Ton Son Nhut. You could pick your own steak and it was Air Conditioned and the beer was Cold.
The O'club at TSN was very nice. I was visiting a friend at the big hospital and went to their small club that night. The nurses weren't too interested in this WO-1 in my smelly old flight suit. I should have pretended to be a visiting doctor.

anyone remember, or ever get to meet, a photojournalist named George Stewart, who published "What's so funny about Vietnam?"

He also published some amazing Pacific/Asian prints...
