Thanks all… I was looking for one with the round trigger guard. But after two years of looking ( most were very high priced ) I found the gem with squared trigger guard.
I had one back in the late ‘80’s, and like a clown, I let it slip away…..

It is my favorite 45. Finally bought a few 1911;s so that I would not shoot the 4506 so much, Veterans and rookies alike enjoy shooting it as much as any handgun. in my collection.

Rick I assume your a police officer

I just retired after 30 yrs with the LAPD. Some of us still carried the 4506 and the young guys were just amazed at the weight of the thing.

I took it to the FBI LE Instructor course in 2007 and it was a hit on shoot around day. The officer from Montreal really really like it. He was carrying a DAO Smith stainless 9mm and said he'd much rather have the 45 instead of his 9

I wanted one with the square trigger guard and settled for a round one...all my old holsters were for the square but they fit the round one just fine..

It's my understanding that the 4506 shared magazine commonality with several other pistols in the Smith line. I recently picked up one of my Grail Guns, a Model 745. It came with one eight-round magazine and a couple of aftermarket 10-rounders. I managed to find another factory 8-rounder, but it was $80 plus shipping. I'd like to have a half-dozen or so mags for this pistol, because it's too much fun not to shoot a lot, but at those prices it'll never happen.

Are there any aftermarket mags that are as good as the original S&W factory mags? The 10-rounders don't have a name on them anywhere I can find one, and one of them won't even stay in the gun, it pops loose after every shot.

Oh, and since "pics or it didn't happen"...here ya go. ;-)

What are they going for currently?
I picked all this up about three years for $550.

OP, that's a nice find. I got my 4506-1 a couple of years ago; great pistols. I believe Murphy's Law says you'll stumble across more now ;-). 03hemi, that was a steal! deals are out there.

I’ve seen a few around here, sellers asking 8. Really optimistic imo, condition was just above Leo trade-in, and they were asking me to “make offer”. “Yea right, I could get a really nice 1911 for that”…is what I like to counter with. Now if I found one like the above for 550, that be different.
