The new 2 piece barrel understand it's stainless on the inside piece. Upgrade or not in your opinion?

I prefer 1-piece barrels, but simply because I nearly always prefer a narrow profile/ tapered barrel, and you can't get that in a 2- piece. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the 2-piece design, however.

Everything I have seen says it’s a carbon steel barrel but the shroud is stainless. Not sure what the frame or cylinder are made of and mine isn’t worn enough to test with cold blue. Most of the small pieces are stainless but the trigger and hammer are (kinda) color case hardened so assume they’re steel.

2 piece barrels are growing on me but they are a PAIN to remove.

I wondered about that. I've also heard the shroud is stainless, but I have to assume they mean the barrel liner, not the shroud. Since the frame is clearly blued, the only way they could get the shroud to look blued, if it were stainless, would be to do a high polish and then nitron finish, which seems crazy expensive for the end result, vs simply using a carbon steel shroud and stainless liner. I couldn't see any difference in the bluing between the barrel shroud and frame/ cylinder, which I think would be virtually impossible with a stainless shroud. They say right on their site that the frame is carbon steel.

I’ll bet the hammer and trigger are MIM.

The guy that used to do the Gunblast videos (now deceased) put a M69 in a Ransom Rest and shot groups at 25 yards. If I remember correctly, 4 out of 9 groups went under 2 inches, and the rest weren’t much over 2 inches. Plenty accurate for me.

Asa far as I know, the only stainless piece on the new Model 19 is the barrel. The rest is carbon steel and MIM. Pretty looking revolver at least to my eyes.

Look at that, their site says the frame is carbon steel. I had only seen their promotional emails and those only mentioned the barrel was carbon. There are other black oxide finishes and the sleeve/liner is also blue/black so they did something. I'll wait until I drop it or wear through the finish to test it.

Edit to add that the manual states the shroud is stainless but it is also a manual that covers (almost) all of their revolvers including the governor.

Site and emails say the barrel is carbon steel. Since it's covered by the shroud, I'll check a small area while it's off.

Yep, I noticed that the black on the end of the barrel insert is a much duller color, vs the blued shroud. That's another factor that makes me believe the insert might be stainless. My bet is that when they say the barrel is "carbon" on their website, they are talking about the shroud.

It's theoretically easier to have a perfectly clocked front sight and proper cylinder gap with 2 piece barrels (not that S&W doesn't still sometimes screw that up).

Some guys claim it's cost cutting, but I don't think that Korth does it (and Dan Wesson did it back when they still made revolvers) to be cheap.

The barrel is stainless, and shroud is carbon steel. The stainless barrel has a coating on the end of it. I forget what it is called, but it is durable and won't scratch easily like the bluing.

Armornite (S&W's name for the nitriding they do), perhaps?
