I saw a photo on another forum of a new S&W revolver where the frame mounted firing pin has a hollow or hole in the back. Is this something new? ( My newest S&W was from the early 1980's)

here is the photo

None of my new S&W have a pin like that. It looks to me like it has a screw head, which makes me think it has some kind of custom adjustable-length pin.
The rear sight is not factory either.

It is indeed something new. My brand new Model 10 Classic No Lock came from the factory with the exact same thing. (but I'm more concerned with why the owner of the OP's photo seems to have been combing their hair with their revolver... :p )

That's weird, and disregard everything I said. I just went through some of my "new" guns (686-6 and 617-6) and they don't have that, although the rimfire 617-6 has a dimple in the center of the pin. I assumed it was to distinguish the rimfire pin.
