.45 semi wadcutter locking up the slide

I own a USP Tactical 45 and recommend staying with coated, jacketed or plated bullets. Jacketed bullets are all I shoot now through all my HK's, as recommended by HK. If you shoot lead bullets, just be sure to clean properly and remove ALL lead from the polygonal rifling. That being said I have shot wadcutters through my USP45, 200g SWC @ 1.250" AOL and a .473"* taper crimp at the mouth. I use a formula from while back from "Bullseye" shooters shooting the 1911. Taper crimp at the mouth measurement is critical for proper feeding, as well as OAL, but here it is.
*Bullet diameter (.452") + case thickness (.012") x 2 =.024" -.003" = .473" taper crimp right at the mouth. So depending on your case thickness, your taper crimp is always minus .003".
You could re-seat the bullets and taper crimp the cases now but be very cautious since it's a loaded round and be sure to check for the lead being shaved off from the case. Your safest bet it to give those away to someone with a S&W 625 or buy one, as recommended earlier. Be Safe!

Regarding OAL, I was having issues with SWC not feeding reliably in my Glock 30s, being curious I broke out a box of .45 ACP FMJ RN factory ammo and measured the OAL, of the the first 20 random cartridges, the results are below, my loading data for that particular bullet is 1.200" though all of these feed well in my pistols.

I experimented and found that my particular pistol would feed SWC reliably when I set the cartridges to 1.265", they also feed well in my 1911's and Sigs so... yay!

That’s pretty tight crimp what barrel you have and was it factory fit ? I thought I had similar issues that turned out being my chamber was too short after fitting a Kart barrel. It got better the tighter the crimp but that really wasn’t the culprit. Also shooting a match along with practice prior the chamber got dirtier and made the problem worse.
Not saying this is your issue just passing along my experiences.

I could not get a .473 to chamber in a Kart barrel and even if it did after you fouled the chamber you'd be done. Another thing is how you measure crimp for me depending on what area of the mic I use I get different readings so now I have a mark I put on there and use the same spot to measure it's the center of the jaws.

Yeah, whatever works. For me there’s no absolute spec. I have even had to crimp to .469” to get reliable feeding if SWC’s. That’s what is great about reloading, tuning to your firearm is endless.

Many recommend crimping to .469", but with a variety of .45 ACP guns, I've never seen a need to go that tight.
