I'm new to shooting, got my SW22 Victory 1 week ago. I took it out for the second time today. The first time I was shooting Aguila Super Extra 40 grain copper round nose. Had no feed or ejection issues during 200 rounds shot. Did a full cleaning after session.

Today I was shooting Federal Auto Match 40 Grain lead round nose. In the first 2 magazines I had 3 failures to eject. On the 3rd mag, first shot there was a failure to eject with no new feed. I could not clear the misfeed - and neither I nor the range officer could clear the failure. The magazine still had 9 rounds. The bolt would only pull back about ½ inch.

When I got home, I removed the breakdown screw and removed the barrel, receiver and bolt. Pulling out the bold pulled the spent caseing from the chamber. The casing slid in and out of the chamber relatively easily.

I did notice that the hammer was not fully cocked - it was perpendicular - it was literally 'half cocked'.

Federal Auto Match is supposed to be good ammo. Does anyone have an idea of why this happened and any suggestions on how to prevent - or at least minimize - a recurrance?

Thanks...

Your opinion of Federal Automatch is different from mine. Some lots have proven to be Junk. Sounds like you had a light load that only moved the bolt part way back then jammed the empty back in the chamber.
The chamber could probably benefit from a good polishing, either with a steel wool wrapped cleaning brush or a fine Flexhone. Factory chambers are rough these days and build up a carbon ring very quickly.

If this problem re-occurs or you figure out what the issue was I hope you let us know. I'm a big fan of the Victory but I'm not seeing an abundance of posts about them anymore.

About 8 years ago there were a lot of threads here concerning the SW22 Victory and similar issues. Do a search on this forum for your issues about that time.
I don't remember the fix but IIRC it was relatively simple.

I prefer copper plated bullets. The nose is just a bit slicker to feed properly into the chamber.

22 Semi autos can be very picky about ammo. I have several plus a Victory) and Federal AM is not a favorite. Shoot CCI or the Aguila. Before doing anything drastic.
Some work others don't

Federal 40gr Automatch is no longer reliable. The 36gr hp are much better. IMO

I have guns that will shoot everything, no glitches. Pull out Automatch and the duds will pile up.
