25-2, 6/1/2 barrel, pinned, in wood case with tools and having smooth and beautiful "Presentation Grips", which I have never seen on like set ups. SN N-66777. I am confused. opinions please. :)

The serial number of your 25-2 dates it to around 1973. The smooth stocks are most likely replacements for the original checkered target stocks made of walnut. The presentation case is also a nice addition, but not original to the 25-2 as a case was not added to this model until some in late 1975. Sounds like a great gun with great accessories.

Thanks Bill,,I see what you are saying. I do not like changed out stocks unless the originals are still kept and as far as the wooden case not available at that year is disturbing to me. The revolver is basically mint condition but no paperwork or cardboard shipping box for the 25-2 which could raise a red flag as to it being all a set as from the factory. :(

I checked my reference, "History of Smith & Wesson", by Roy Jinks and found the presentation case was added to this model in 1974. I still believe your 25-2 is about a year too early to have been shipped with this accessory. Only an examination of the original invoice by the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation will identify the type of stocks original to your 25-2, but smooth stocks would have been a special order.

Thanks! :)

For what it's worth, I have a 25-2 with serial N 66752 and it has smooth presentation grips. However, I bought it (no box, tools or presentation case) from a shop that had it on consignment. Doesn't look like it's ever been fired.

I have posted this before, so I will show the link to that post. It includes a picture of the letter stating that it was shipped with smooth stocks.

Thanks and, that is great information, and yours also appears unfired! :)
