"I'm an OLD dog, and these are all NEW tricks".

Here's an ad I took out of an old Shotgun News, back in the late '70's... I Never ordered one of these, but now that I've got a couple Model 53's, I'm wondering if I could make some of these, using Jet brass. I'm trying to figure out what material is used to fill the empty case, and have a hole the bored from the primer hole to the case mouth.
I ask this because I've got an indoor range in my basement that our two boys used to learn to handle and shoot .22 shorts, out of their Winchester 67 Boy's Rifle.
We used the old gallery .22 shorts, with the disintegrating bullet.... We had an Outer's bullet trap that took care of the little 29 grain pill that that rifle spit out the muzzle. This would be quite the ticket for indoor shooting with that 53.
The company address is a strip mall, in Lapuente, and the business is long gone. Has anyone on this site seen or used one of these. Thanks for any info or ideas!
THANKS.... Flyingliver

You don't need to fill the case with anything, just size the case so that it will hold a pellet in the neck. You will get all the velocity you need from a standard primer. Don't expect much accuracy though.

I've done similar using wax bullets. Melted wax into a cake pan, then pressed primed shells into the wax like using a cookie cutter. And no they weren't super accurate, but would run off unwanted critters when hit without causing permanent damage. They also leave residue in the barrel but it's easy to clean out.

I could imagine a teeny weeny straw/tube of some kind pushed through the primer flash hole and the case maybe partially filled with epoxy or something that'd set up enough to take up volume and hold it's shape.

I can also imagine a world where primers cost more than actual 22 rimfire rounds ...

Speer made plastic bullets and pistol cases that could be shot with a primer. (I have some) If you know anybody with a 3d printer the should be able to make a few. Getting a good fit would be a little tricky, but if made a little oversized, they would be easy to sand down. OR, use a regular cartridge case and pour casting material into it. Then drill a hole through the middle. I think that the flash hole is a little bigger on the Speer plastic shells. I think I'd try a #45 drill.

I have a set of 6 of those for use in a .38 Special. They are made from solid brass with a hole just smaller than the primer drilled through to the mouth where it opens up to 22 cal. There is a barrel insert with "O" rings on each end that you just push in place. Haven't used it in years but it worked pretty good in the basement.
