4" 27-2's have always been one of my favorite S&W revolver models ! They have also been very difficult to find since they were made for only about 4 years. Here in California the problem is exacerbated because they are illegal to import into the state. It took me many years to find mine and I had to drive a great distance to pick them up. Please show us photos of your 4" 27-2's !

I have a few. Can you tell me how you technically posted those pictures and what you did to make the lighting perfect. I would appreciate it!

That's all I have also...I need to work on that...:cautious:...Ben

Many, many years ago I saw a excellent 4inch 27-2 nickel with magnas at a out of town gunshop. It was marked at $1000. I offered $900 but they turned it down. Which was probably for the best because I really did not have the money at the time and it would have gone on a already screaming credit card.

Beautiful 27's!!! Never found a 27 I could afford, let alone a 3,1/2" or a 4". Do have a 6" 28 though from 1960. Bob

All nice N frames ! To the OP as I understand it, there are ways to get used off roster guns into California- a knowledgeable California FFL will know how. It is something called a PPT via an FFL. Also any gun that is old enough to be considered a curio and relic ( over 50 years old) is not subject to the roster requirements

The Private Party Transfer (PPT) only applies to guns that are already within the state of California. The transfers are face to face transfers between individuals while physically at an FFL. You cannot even ship them to an FFL for transfer to another individual within the state. C&R is indeed a way to go and is pretty easy, BUT they still must go through an FFL even though I have a C&R license. I import .38/44 Outdoorsman from out-of-state via C&R with no problems. I have found the people at the California Department of Justice are very helpful but the crazy laws that control all of this are controlled by the politicians.

Introduced in 2001 through the Unsafe Handgun Act.

If you are buying a handgun from a private party in a face-to-face transaction, the handgun is exempt from the roster. Law enforcement officers are also exempt from the roster. Additionally, many curio&relic, single-shot, and single-action handguns are exempt from the requirement.

Up to the late 1990s California was somewhat of a Free State.
