I am trying to find s&w grips, or stocks if you prefer, for my new Russian model 3. I want original checked dark brown grips marked with the s&w crest. Anyone know a source?

It sounds like you have a New model Russian. (aka 3RD MODEL)
If you do, then the stocks would be smooth walnut
Better post a pic

Ah! The name is wrong and that leads to the confusion. You have a New Model #3 chambered in .44 Russian caliber. More than likely, your revolver was shipped to Japan.

I don't believe that the original checkered grips had a crest or logo.

your grips look pretty good although Japanese guns tend to have some mixed up parts

iby,

Do you believe now?

The grips are unnumbered.

Late NM3s had the gold medallions as I recall. There were also black hard rubber stocks with S&W logo. You should check the inside of the right stock for a serial number and if there do not replace them. The NM3 has the largest HR stocks the company made and there is no other S&W model using that size, except the rare 320 Revolving Rifle. Comparison photo showing Double Action 44/K frame stocks which are smaller.

Vintagegungrips.com should have reproduction sets, but it is unlikely you will run across originals for sale anymore. VGG link is https://vintagegungrips.com/product/sw-new-model-3-44-frontier-break-top-grips/
