I have been requested to post a few photos of my plated Model 1. The letter says that this revolver was part of a 20-unit shipment to JW Storrs Co., New York City, New York on April 17, 1858. The letter goes on to say that the finish on guns in this shipment is not listed and that generally the finish is a silver-plated frame with a blue barrel and cylinder. However, there is a note in the shipping ledger recording a payment for "plate pistol". Here are a few photos of serial number 162. This revolver was in a family in Montana for several generations.

Hi There,

Neat Revolver! (and your pics are are fine). I am not an expert in
these 1st Issue No. 1's and there are many changes that took place
during the 1st Issue manufacturing period. Would you be willing
to show some of the unique features of the 1st Type, 1st Issue No. 1?

Cheers!
Webb

Wow ! How lucky are you to have such an historic revolver ! Just as wlw-19958, I'd like very much if you could show us its specific features.

I'll try. I'm not a photographer but I might get a few good photos in the next day or so.

If I'm not mistaken the third photo is from the Tom Lindner collection. Notice the barrel address is on the left side and is Wolfe, Dash & Fisher. The odd thing is that there is NO S&W barrel rib address as I remember. Top photo is serial number 5 and is in the Mike Helms collection. It is the earliest serial known to survive, has a split-cylinder (two piece) and was sent to a tool company where the modification was thought to have been done. Any serial number below 10 is thought to be experimental. I have no knowledge of the revolver in the second photo of a Model 1, 1st Issue, 2nd Type.
