I bought this off gunbroker a couple weeks ago. It was listed as a 38 and the pictures made it look like a low finish gun. I knew it wasn’t a 38 by the length of the cylinder.
When it arrived I was surprised to see the finish appears to be tarnished like old silverware instead of worn off. I’ve not owned any silver plated guns but this doesn’t look like any of my nickel guns.

All the pins are still proud and the letters don’t appear to be buffed out. The serial numbers all match. The trigger is gold washed and the trigger guard is blued with a very small but ornate inscription. I believe it says Frank F. King. It’s very hard to photograph the finish but it appears dark brown/copper with some bits of darker black. Here’s some photos, what do yall think?

Very nice Antique.
I have a 2nd model 32 TB with silver plating and period engraved on the backstrap “KAISER” with Pearl grips. Same look as yours.
My letter came back typically Nickel/Hard rubber from the factory.
However, it’s definitely Silver plated now and likely done by the Major Distributor to personalize the gun when purchased by a client. The Distributor could do just about anything back then and extremely well.

Murph

Thanks for all the replies. I agree it’s most likely dealer added. I haven’t been able to find any non engraved top breaks that letter as silver plated.
