I have a question for those in the know about the value of the 4 screw & 5 screw K-32s as compared to the M-16-4

I have a 4 screw Model Marked K-32 & a 5 screw Non Model Marked K-32 and I would be interested in trading them for a 6" & 8-3/8" M-16-4 but am unsure of the value placed on the M16-4s these days. I haven't seen a M-16-4 in years nor have I seen the earlier K-32s priced for sale either. Is there anyone in this group who would be able to suggest how a trade could be completed and which has the higher value considering that all are in good mechanical & appearance condition?

A pre model marked K32 should buy you at least 2 16-4s! There were 3630 K32s made in 27 years of (long gone) production! This status puts most of the remaining K32s in the hands of collectors! In regard to the 16-4 guns, there are many still floating around on the for sale & auction sites! Many of us old timers remember the 16-4s being in production! This is my 16-4 which is a bunch of fun to shoot!

Yes sir, this one shoots three different 32 cal cartridges! Easy to do, all you need is the 327 Fed Mag reamer!

The challenge is going to be trying to find someone who wants to part with their 16-4 6 and 8 3/8 inch guns although offering a K32 in trade is likely the best possible way to get the attention of 16-4 owners. I would agree with jcelect that one very nice K32 should trade for the two 16-4s. Price will be up/down from here based on condition and location but for ball park numbers assuming $1500 each for the 16-4s and $3k for a K32 is a reasonable place to start.

I have tracked a dozen or so sales of pre-16s and the various dash numbers over the past year or so. Sales prices have ranged from $1880 to $3818. There were three 16-4 sales with a lowest being $1300 and the highest being $2200 (that one a four inch ANIB).

You could advertise here, as you have just done, and the population most likely to be interested in such a trade is likely to be on this Forum.

I think finding someone willing to make that trade is unlikely, but possible. You may need to sell one of your K32s and then look for the 16-4s. Good luck.

There was a time when one K-32 would get you two 16-4's, but probably not these days. However, given equal condition, a K-32 will still bring several hundred dollars more than a 16-4. My suggestion is to sell one of your K-32's, add the necessary dollars and keep an eye out for the 16-4's. Then you'll have the best of both worlds...

Since your by-line shows you to be a member of SWHF living in NC, have you made arrangements to attend the SWCA Symposium in Cncord next week? If so, you should have the opportunity to connect with several of the most knowledgeable Smith collectors of K32 revolvers around. That’s sure how I would start.

I want to thank all who responded with guidance for my question about the value of the K-32 pre Model 16 and the Model marked 4 screw M-16 as opposed to the M-16-4. I suppose I am crazy but I'm an old man now and thinking of what the Grandchildren would prefer. Y'all know that the youngsters now have no use for the revolver or even the all metal semiautos.
Right now I am taking a break from looking for the two older K-16s, looks like I've hidden them from me but not giving up yet. I am hoping to be able to bring them to Concord if my back holds out so the search can continue.

I hope to see you there, Sam. This will be my first. Look for the somewhat dazed looking elderly guy wearing signature green, and trying to take in everything at once.
