That would be George Kennedy for the older folks
Funny thing, but in the briefing pack I received before i came to the US, it mentioned that US road signage worked on the "just too late" principle. I found this warning a bit odd in what I knew was a car dominated society. Then I got here and found that it was entirely true.
I don't see it with signage if I'm paying proper attention. GPS on the other hand often hasn't a clue.Funny thing, but in the briefing pack I received before i came to the US, it mentioned that US road signage worked on the "just too late" principle. It depends very much on where you live. The freeway signage in TX is pretty good. Here in NV they still assume the population is a third of what it is and there are no vehicles in the way to block your view to the one sign for your exit. In SoCAL the signs are often late or confusing because they have the exits too close together in the name of access.I don't see it with signage if I'm paying proper attention. At least we drive on the correct side of the road.It depends very much on where you live. The freeway signage in TX is pretty good. My biggest beef in this city is the signage on surface streets, especially approaching freeway junctions. Quite often the city will not put up signs or gantries on their bit of road because it costs money. Only the immediate environs of the junction belong to the state, so on a three lane each way surface street, the signs are far too late in heavy traffic when you're in a part of town you don't know. The issue is exacerbated by the on ramp layouts being different to plain weird nearly everywhere in this city because of existing development.
