A hypothetical FFL question for you (NY)

Jim, idk why but I thought your camp was in Chautauqua County. Mine is also Allegany County. Back in the 90s when I lived in Amherst I was a member of Niagara County Sportsmen Club across from Bonds Lake. It was a little bit of a drive but I’d go during the day on weekdays and have the place to myself.
We're in Alma, just outside Allentown. Been on that mountain for 38 years. I started shooting with the Allied Pistol Team in Elma, and then switched to Mohawk (across from Sheridan Park). When I got married and moved to NT I moved over to NCSC. Been there for 48 years now.

If a person bases where they live on a single topic, I see that as being nearsighted. Life is complex. My Ancestors have been in NY since 1894, and we have no reason to leave, even though many have told us life is better elsewhere.

If you saw my mountain cabin, you wouldn't want to leave it either.
Everyone in my family has a CCW - maybe a hoop but not really a problem.
I can buy a handgun at 9:00 AM when the LGS opens, and be shooting it by lunchtime.
My club has 7 ranges and a fishing pond and the dues are $40/year. 24/7 indoor range.
The fishing is great, and no salt water to contend with.

OTOH,
We don't have waiting periods.
We don't have tornados or hurricanes.
We don't have riots. A recent "massacre" in the poor part of town caused people of all races to gather and pray. Local businesses donated a lot of $ to the survivors.
Although our taxes are considered high, the reasonable real estate prices balances out the monthly payment.

I'll take our "hoops" any day. They are only a minor inconvenience.
Jim, I wasn’t knocking your state by any means. I don’t know about the rural areas. All I can speak to are friends who I graduated with that live in the City and it’s a mess. We can buy, sell trade here without any FFL involved. We do not have to have a permit to carry. Although I buy mine 5 years at a time because I travel to different states. I live on one of the best well known big bass fishing lakes in the country. No saltwater around here. I can shoot any weapon in my backyard. I have land in a rural area that I can shoot long range for free. No club required.

I love where I live based on the area, historic history and my family has been here since before the Civil War. Yes, we are in a tornado hotspot in my particular area. But it’s been that way my whole life so it’s as normal as snow up north in the winter. I have a large underground bunker for such occasions. Industry and the birth of the Saturn V Rocket is 45 mins away. I can put my bass boat in the water within 2 mins of my driveway.

This was never what my comment was about. I wasn’t putting your location down. I literally feel bad for people who have to pay to shoot or buy from an FFL if they want a gun. We all have our reasons for staying where we do. If you’re happy, then I’m happy for you. It’s that simple. No argument was intended or reasons to assume I base where I live on a single topic. Glad you’re happy Jim. All I have to say on the matter.
