K38 Serial block request

David, it’s good to “bump into” you again my friend…it’s been far too long.
From what you are saying here, it is highly likely that K49993 and K64401 shipped in 1948, unless they somehow got stuck back on a shelf and shipped later. Is this correct? This agrees with other (non official) info gleaned previously.
I had hoped for a year later (1949 is when I “shipped”) but it seems that is not to be. I’ll just say they were there waiting for me when I arrived.

As noted above, my 61,000 serial number shipped in December 1948 so I would guess that a 49,000 number would most likely be 1948, but 64,000 could have shipped in 1948 or 1949. Manufacturing numbers for 1949 are documented as K73122 to K84,149. Staying below 80,000 should be a safe bet for 1949 ship date but still no guarantee.

Thanks, Gary. I guess I’ll have to have the number run on the later one. From all reports I’ve gotten, though, these guns were popular and seldom stayed long on the shelf before shipping, so it’s sounding more like 1948 all the time!

Not sure if this will add to the discussion or not. My birth year is also 1949, and a few years back I ran across a K-38 Heavy barrel, serial # K80136. Thinking it had to be a 1949, I bought it and later Roy told me it shipped in March, 1950. However, it also happened to be a very early HB, likely from the first production run of the Heavy K-38.

A few years later, I ran across a K-38 tapered barrel, serial #K75708, and Roy said it was shipped April, 1949. Bingo, birth year.

Finally, I also have a K-22, serial #K68788, shipped February, 1949. Another bingo!

With respect to the K-32 Masterpiece, production didn't begin until December 1948, and as far as I can determine, none were shipped until early 1949. Hence, they don't really enter into the equation when talking about guns shipped in 1948. The 1948 units were either K-22 or K-38 Masterpiece revolvers.
Well, may just have to take a 1949 if I find a 32. I always seem to find the 1962 Dodge Darts of things, one off or short run years.

My own extensive database, accumulated over years, along with some specific information gleaned from Dr. Jinks (again, over a period of years).
Thank you. Was hoping there was a book I could get. I'll have to take a look at Dr. Jinks.

Looking at how difficult it may be to get a reasonably priced 1948 model, is there a year range you would recommend? And if so may I bother you for the serial number spread?
