Going rate for pre-29 in box?

The presentation case is the slide or button latch variety that was used from January-September 1956. It should be numbered to the revolver on the bottom in white grease pencil.

Well, I went ahead and bought it, I will send an email requesting the serial number.

Edit # S1606XX
It is almost impossible to tell when a certain serial number shipped, but considering what Bill said about the dates for your presentation case (assuming it is the original one for your .44 magnum), it stands to reason that your gun is a "1956 First Year" gun. Those are worth more than those that shipped out later. I believe you got a winner! Thanks for sharing.

Question, I am researching a pre-29 44 mag 5 screw revolver with a 6.5" barrel. No case or tools, non matching grips. It has a letter dated to April 1956. Really great condition. From this forum I see them from $4-5K on posts, but most have matching grips, tools and or cases. Owner is asking $5k. What would the fair price be? Thanks

Pictures would help but it is safe to say that $5k is way too high for one missing its case, tools and "cokes." I would think more like $3k depending on condition. Nice "cokes" are going to cost $500-$700 and a correct box with tools is another $500-$700.

22hipower, Thank you for the information. Are "coke" grips typically serial numbered to the the pre-29's?
