I'm a bit of a fan myself! And I didn't include any of mine that had 3" or longer barrels.
Yes, I have a couple that weren't S&W but needed to get out of the safe too. The Ruger LCR .22 Magnum with LaserMax is actually my wife's CCW.

The 37 is exactly what I expect from a serious gun for serious tasks. As is the aggravating finish wear on the 638… Why can't Smith find something better!
What really intrigues me is the new 817… Would love to know more about your experiences with this new hotness, as that sure sounds like a Goldilocks type snub - minimal weight for steel, but in a sweet spot for control. Taurus keeps building what Smith should be - and I am tempted to buy another.
More than 30 years ago, I bought the 617 in double action only, seven shot 357. Loved that gun. A bad round took it out permanently. When I found out they re-released the 817, I couldn't live without it. The trigger action was very nice right out of the box. No need for multiple cleaning dry firing and lubing like on my Smith revolvers. I painted the sites so my old eyes could see them. I put on larger grips so my old beat to **** hands could handle it better. At the range I started practicing at 21 feet, good groups with all ammo I shot . Spear gold dot 135+ P, Winchester 147 grain Hollow point plus P, and range rounds from Winchester and PPU 130 grain ball ammo everything hit about the same and grouped about the same for me I move the target out to 50 feet by then my hands were pretty tired so I shot single action and kept everything on a paper plate. I by far am not a great shooter but I think I did OK. The gun weighs around 2 pounds maybe a hair over, loaded.
I carry it in the waistband in the appendix area moving it around throughout the day. It's a little heavy at times, but I've carried heavier. The grip is also a hair large for my hands, but I can handle it pretty well seven shots of 38+ P in the waistband and a five shooter in my pocket every day seems comforting enough.

I hang my head in sadness after seeing all these gorgeous guns with rubber grips.

I tried several different pairs of wood grips on my 2.5 inch 686. Then I bought the VZ tactical grips here in classifieds and eureka they are a perfect grip for my hands and I think look perfect on the 686. Same with the Uncle Mikes Spegel boot grips on my 60. These are carry guns and I don't need to be showing them off (other than on here lol ). I have plenty pairs of nice wood grips - here are some …

I know what you mean. I need comfortable grips. My hand was pined under a front end loader bucket. It smashed and deformed it a bit. I can shoot pretty good with rubber grips. Not a perfect shot but ok.
I have shown this one a few times before but it is appropriate. It came from the factory with the red ramp and white outline sights back on Sep. 3, 1974. The sharp shoulder magnas added later by me.
