A few eeks back I posted about my latest find, a Model 14 No Dash that Mike Helms said shipped in April 1959. As you experts on this site pointed out it came to me with a real nice set of PC Magna, non diamond, rounded bottom stocks. I had seen that in the store so offered less $ because of incorrect stocks. So sure enough the PC Magna's had a serial number clearly belonging to a 1973 D prefix revolver, probably a Model 10 something.

So now after searching around and parting with some dollars, I now have two (2) nice sets of what I believe are now period correct for the Model 14 no dash. One set are diamond checkered Magna's in great shape with a serial number (98067) that probably puts them 9 or 10 years earlier than April 1959, but still period correct I think.

The second set I was able to find were Walnut Targets, also diamond checkered and in beautiful shape, no serial number but I think that was the "factory way" by 1959 with respect to Target style grips.

So..........what say you guys...........both look to be correct for 1959. The Targets feel better for me and the gun seems to point better, but that's me. The Magna's actually look great on the gun too.

I'm thinking of putting one set up for sale to defray the costs of both sets, but heck....may keep em both and search for another gun. Wouldn't be the first time I had some grips that I went looking for a gun for.M14ND T1.webp

Targets look correct as near as I can tell but there is a difference between sharp corners and rounded corners at the bottom of the checkering border, the round being later. The magna's look to be sharp shoulder which as you said were late 1940's, early 50's. Good news they are harder to find and someone would be glad to trade for later ones. Someone will be along to fill you in a little more.

I'm looking for target grips for a 1960 model 19 no dash. It's been lettered and I know it shipped with target grips. Supposedly goncola alves, but most everything from that era is walnut.

I have these grips, but I don't know if they are what you need. No serial number. I think they are too old.

Charlie, that is a very pronounced ridge/transition just above the right side logo on your target set.

I've never seen any like that. Are they factory and are there other factory targets like that? I've only seen one's like this with a more gradual taper.

@444 Magnum and others interested;

I see what you mean about the very pronounced transition on right panel, however I do believe it is a product of my lighting for the photograph. I have been tinkering with various forms of lighting, and even then I have also been using a photo editing program to reduce shadows, enhance details and even with all of that I am no real photographer so what you see is what you get.:)

With the above said i also offer that I bought these stocks from a well respected Life Member on this Forum, and his description was "used factory targets for S&W K Frame". I don't have any reason to doubt that.

Also as you can see from other pics below of other guns I have owned and photographed, some seem to show a sharper transition that others yet they are all the same basically.

The pics are, Model 19 Nickel (1972), K38 Heavy Masterpiece, non relieved shipped Sept 1950, Model 53 22 Remington Jet, s/n = 1961, yet Roy confirmed not shipped until June 1966, Model 17 (1972). The Walnut Targets in a vintage (mid 1960's) blister pack remain unopened, but look smooth like you have shown, I don't know what they would look like on my gun as again....I'm happy with the Targets on it now, and will be selling the blister pack as well as the early post war diamond Magna's.M19.webpK 38 - H.webpModel 53 .webpM17.webpWalnut Targets 1.webp

Yes, those magnas are from early in the post-war period. You need magnas with a more gradual rounding instead of the sharp rounding on your grips.
