Hello Forum, yesterday I posted pics and questions about my latest find, a 99% Model 14 no dash, confirmed by Mike Helms to have shipped in April 1959. The gun is great and all original except for the grips which are PC Magna's that experts identified as K Frame probably circa 1973 from a D prefix Model 10-5 etc.

So now I would like some help with identifying exactly what grips would be "period correct" for a April 1959 shipment of a Model 14 no dash.

My 1950 K 38 Heavy Masterpiece has unrelieved diamond Targets, my 1960 Model 53 (Remington Jet) had diamond football cutout Targets, my 1969 Model 15-3 had non diamond Targets w/football cutout, and my 1976 Model 19-3 also had non-diamond Targets with football cutout.

What would be period correct Targets for 1950, unrelieved, diamond w/football cutout, or non-diamond w/football cutout?

What would be period correct Magna's, diamond or non diamond for 1959?

Obviously I can not make it original ever again, but at least period correct either Targets or Magna's will be better than the nice PC's that are on it now.

Thanks for your expert answers in advance...........this Forum is the best for any question on anything S & W!!!!K38 GRIPS FACE.jpgM53-L.JPGM15-3F.JPGM19-3M.JPGMod 14 grips.jpg

Most likely your Model 14 shipped with diamond Magna stocks but squared off on the bottom (unlike those PC Magna stocks).

IF it shipped with targets, they would have the diamond and the football extractor relief. They would probably have been those with the slightly smaller football. See first photo below (these are actually GA, while on a Model 14, they would be walnut).

The unit in the middle here shows the larger football (albeit on non-diamond targets).
