Thanks all… I was looking for one with the round trigger guard. But after two years of looking ( most were very high priced ) I found the gem with squared trigger guard.
I had one back in the late '80's, and like a clown, I let it slip away…..

It is my favorite 45. Finally bought a few 1911;s so that I would not shoot the 4506 so much, Veterans and rookies alike enjoy shooting it as much as any handgun. in my collection.
Rick I assume your a police officer

I just retired after 30 yrs with the LAPD. Some of us still carried the 4506 and the young guys were just amazed at the weight of the thing.

I took it to the FBI LE Instructor course in 2007 and it was a hit on shoot around day. The officer from Montreal really really like it. He was carrying a DAO Smith stainless 9mm and said he'd much rather have the 45 instead of his 9

I wanted one with the square trigger guard and settled for a round one...all my old holsters were for the square but they fit the round one just fine..

It's my understanding that the 4506 shared magazine commonality with several other pistols in the Smith line. I recently picked up one of my Grail Guns, a Model 745. It came with one eight-round magazine and a couple of aftermarket 10-rounders. I managed to find another factory 8-rounder, but it was $80 plus shipping. I'd like to have a half-dozen or so mags for this pistol, because it's too much fun not to shoot a lot, but at those prices it'll never happen.

Are there any aftermarket mags that are as good as the original S&W factory mags? The 10-rounders don't have a name on them anywhere I can find one, and one of them won't even stay in the gun, it pops loose after every shot.

Oh, and since "pics or it didn't happen"...here ya go. ;-)

What are they going for currently?
I picked all this up about three years for $550.

OP, that's a nice find. I got my 4506-1 a couple of years ago; great pistols. I believe Murphy's Law says you'll stumble across more now ;-). 03hemi, that was a steal! deals are out there.

I've seen a few around here, sellers asking 8. Really optimistic imo, condition was just above Leo trade-in, and they were asking me to "make offer". "Yea right, I could get a really nice 1911 for that"…is what I like to counter with. Now if I found one like the above for 550, that be different.

My late model 645 pairs well with my very late model ("3 line") 4506, an ex-cop gun carried much but shot hardly at all.

Both are equally accurate. The 645 has a slightly better DA/SA trigger while the 4506 has better sights (Trijicons).

I had a 4506 that I bought new in the '90s and finally sold it a few years ago. I always thought that was was best looking .45 ever made. Any way, I was looking through a box of "stuff" last week and saw that I still have a holster for the pistol. If any of you 4506 fans are interested I will sell it for $25 plus shipping unless you live in or around El Paso, TX, but then again no one lives in or around El Paso. So, it is a Bianchi #19 marked "4506" and "1006". I will never find a home for it around here.

TBS, that's for a 4506-1, look at the round trigger guard, still a helluva deal on a great holster!

Mine came with a nice pancake holster as pictured above, but I grabbed this discontinued suede lined Kevlar with shark covered panels "Wilson Combat Adjuster" holster at work a few weeks back, looks like it rides high, but it actually rides below the center of gravity because it's a paddle holster and comes way up on back. Holster rides very low and feels extremely comfortable without pulling on your belt for this ol' gal. This is the only holster I've found so far that I can comfortably wear this loaded boat anchor with.

The one I had had a squared trigger guard. To be honest, I do not remember ever carrying the pistol in the holster. I would GUESS I did but it usually just went to the range in a rug. Attached picture shows that the holster is cut out so maybe it used to fit? I do not remember.
