I have been on this site for a day or 2. I have seen people talk good about guns and bad about guns, specifically S&W guns. As this is a S&W forum I can understand it. What I can't understand is why people feel necessary to join the forum for the sole purpose of slamming a firearm. Specifically BG 2.0 and the CSX. I found 10 threads slamming the BG and of those 10 threads, all of them were from people that just joined the forum in 2025. It has been a little bit, but the whipping boy was the CSX and now I assume it will be the new CSX-E's turn. I am waiting for baited breath to see who comes out of the woodwork to complain about the E.

Just as a FYI, I used the original CSX to qualify to carry as a law enforcement officer. No problems, no trigger issues, no jammed rounds, no no no. I understand that people want to talk about issues but, not sure that 10 people joining with the specific intent to complain (wanted to use the b word here but.....). I even think that several of the posts may be by the same person as the style is just so close to other posts that it may not be a mere coincidence.

If you want help with a firearm that may have an issue, fine. You are in the right place. If you have come here to complain, sell your S&W and buy a Glock or Sig, that have to be better...........right?

Hello, this is my first day on this forum and my first post. I am having failures, and I came here trying to find out if there were others experiencing the same issue. Please don't think I joined just to slam my firearm. I am trying to resolve without having to send it in for service.

I was about to say something similar, that most new threads I see, are people trying to problem-solve their newly acquired gun(s), more so than "bad mouthing" them. And what better place to do so, than a place like this where you're likely to find people who know a lot more than "you" do about your newly acquired gun. Granted, they can probably find answers to their questions, or read similar experiences by searching the dozens of other similar threads on the forum, but not everyone is as experienced as "we" are at negotiating forums like this.

Its a discussion forum....People what to "Discuss" stuff. And if were being honest... S&W does not have the best track record lately.

Lots of QC issues. at both he old MA plant and the newer TN plant. I know at least two other forum members who had to send there 617 back due to issues. They came here looking for answers... to see if others were having the same issues.

You like you CSX.. Great, you were one of the lucky ones. Some of us are not so lucky. And staying quiet about it is not going to get S&W to change.

One thing I learned since the dawn of the internet... If you don't like a topic being posted.... You don't have to post in it, You don't even need to read it.....

Take this with a grain of salt.
I've been on dozens of forums over the years. From ATV/Racing related, to Jeeps, trucks, bikes, guns..
From know it alls, to newbies, to veteran posters.
Here's what I can surmize… majority are here to either complain and/or inquire about an issue they are having.

You rarely, rarely see people join, just to post, everything is fine.
And since most people join a forum to discuss issues, problems, concerns, some people tend to forget, for any one problem a user may have, some are self induced. Those that aren't, are a mere fraction…fraction… of the gun, bike, car, truck, ATV, etc., in the real world…with the majority being trouble free.

Forum members make up a small, small percentage of real world owners…so I take that and weigh it accordingly.

I joined in 2005 to find out whether to buy the Model 457, which I did. I have so appreciated the writing of 18DAI who told me at the time about lawmen required to carry the 4506 on duty who used the 457, or the similar 4516, for off duty and plain clothes.
He is too soon departed and I am not alone missing him around here.
In every thread you must wade through a lot of superfluous goo to find a few solid things. Note those names and look up their other contributions using the search function.

I've been on internet forums since 1999. I've been a member of dozens of forums. I've visited 100s and 100s of internet forums. I find mostly like-minded people with very similar interests who are wanting to learn and educate themselves about the topics. Some members like to lurk and learn, some like to share their knowledge and experiences, some people are better skilled at textual communications, some are less skilled.

From my perspective most members are not complainers, they are just wanting learn about a problem they may be experiencing. There are always a few of those that are not respectful, like to be mean, condescending, and don't really contribute anything positive.

Complaining about the "complainers' makes you a complainer, right.

Being an active member of a forum can burn up the clock really fast, so I try to find what I'm looking for, read what topics I'm interested in, and do my best to make a contribution, even if it's only valuable to a few.

I thank and appreciate those who share their knowledge and experiences with the intent to simply offer some help. In today's world, we need all the help we can get.

Agreed I like them all(at least all the reliable ones) Im not a this brand is the ONLY good all the rest suck type.. mostly because its not true...just about every quality firearm maker now days makes a decent to great gun.. you will IN EVERY BRAND always have a dud or 2(a lemon lets say) but thats not common anymore, I always considered S&W a Quality brand and when I got the chance to jump on a good price for a nice M&P I did it without hesitation. I also own a model 22A and a Model 41 my first Duty carry was a Model 28 S&W in .357 mag. I also have Glocks, Rugers, Springfield and even 2 Taurus that have been issue free(PT 99/CH85) I wont talk bad about any of them because they have all been really good. Heck I even have a semi close relative a Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 6" revolver I love most accurate revolver ive owned.

I joined because I really like the content and the temperament of the majority of the community. Best around. I too notice new members joining with a problem or complaint to discuss and promptly disappearing forever. Predictable and disappointing. We can only offer the benefits of our vast collective knowledge to our new friends and hope that a few like what they see and continue to contribute. 🧐

Some here need to reread my original post. I understand that every firearm manufacturer has issues. Just like every car maker does as well. My point was completely missed by several here. I an not standing in a glass Smith and Wesson house throwing rocks at people that complain or other gun makers. If you slow down and truly read my post you will understand what I am getting at. Didn't think my post was that nuanced.

A firearm you're having trouble with isn't a "good" gun.

Also, meet the nature of the Internet. I'm not starting a thread saying "I shot my gun today, and it shot real good."

I've been here 24 years.........To me it's the best gun forum on the internet.........I spend a couple of hours here every day..........Ifffen there's some poster you don't like you can always hit the "ignore" button.....I've learned a lot and contributed too......Some of the old members like me, feel like family even though I've never met them in person.

Actually, I have followed your advice, mostly.

I refuse to own a Glock anymore, owned 6 in the past. I have multiples of Sig (no 320), Beretta, Springfield, CZ & H&K (YES!). All have just been perfect for me, but I admit to maintaining the crap out of them too.

The only Smith models I own are models 41, 22A-1 & 52. I have owned a 3rd Gen Smith in the past, 9mm. I would not own a Smith semi (aside from my list) if someone GAVE it to me. I have humbled/irritated many a Smith owner at the ranges by outshooting their Smiths. Further irked them when they shot MY gun more accurately than their own.

When I was real active in USPSA, 3 Gun & Steel Plate matches, you know how many Smiths I saw over those years? Maybe, MAYBE 2-3. Saw a boatload of everything else though. These guys were gun guys, not the casual "let's go shoot a match" guys either. That told me something.

When I was on the retail end, I sold Smith revolvers by 6-7 to 1 over a Smith semi. Maybe more. Were it not for the Shield EZ, it would've been much, much higher. Now, this is not to say Smith is down there with a Hi-Point or Lorcin. But I wouldn't rate them much (if any) higher than a Ruger or Taurus semi.

Absolutely no one I know, or used to know, carries a Smith semi. None. That's the sort of reputation Smith has, good or bad or indifferent.

You like yours, nothing wrong with that. Enjoy it. But there's a reason they rank so low in sales numbers & re-sale value. The shooting public has decided where Smith ranks, IMO.

I think a lot of people just enjoy bad-mouthing ... it's what they do ... it's in their heart to tear down .
My Momma taught us ...
" If you can't say something nice ... then don't say anything
at all ! "
Mom raised us like that ... Being Nice beats being mean ...
Seven Ways to Sunday ... and then some !
Momma says ... Y'All Be Nice !
