Sorry to say I agreed to purchase a S&W 1076 from a member of this forum after he responded to my WTB post and sent me several pictures of it, to include a S&W authentication letter stating it was an original FBI contract pistol. After sending him a check for the agreed upon price, he said his FFL dealer told him the pistol was lost in the mail and could not find the tracking number. A subsequent reverse image of the photos he sent to me revealed they were downloaded from another sale on Guns International. I reported this to the Forum Admin and DeKalb County (Georgia) Sheriff’s Department. Yes, I feel stupid.

I'm sorry this happened. I banned the crook.

His email [email protected] was clean when he joined in February, but he picked up 2 hits on SFS in March. There's no way I can catch something like this with 177K members.

I always recommend speaking with someone on the phone before buying. These crooks rarely have firearm knowledge and are easy to sniff out.

I also advise to NEVER use PP friends & family, Venmo or other non-recoverable online payment methods. Using PP F&F is cheating and you have no recourse if the deal goes south. Pay their pittance...

Someday I will make a scammer poop his pants. I'm gonna tell him I will drive to him, look at the gun & then accompany him to his FFL to ship it to me. LOL!

I bet he'll dance more than Michael Jackson.

100% correct...I will not send nor receive any payment "F&F" just because someone wants to save a few bucks. If I want the item, I either just send standard PayPal or I won't buy it and likewise in return.

Except the scammer is sitting in an internet cafe in Nigeria and knows enough about the world that there's no land bridge from the USA to Africa :p

Did you send the check via US Mail ? If so, contact the US Postal Inspection Service and file a complaint.
I was scammed on the Ruger Forum on a WTB ad for a book. I contacted the Postal Inspectors. They went to the subjects home and recovered the check which was returned to me.
