CRPD marked 4043 pistols

I have seen several 4043 pistols marked CRPD on right side of frame - sellers claim either Crystal River, FL or Cedar Rapids, IA - Product Code is 108529, Spec Ord 6751. Boxes are marked "Special" and 10rnd - anyone know real history about these?

Possibly Con Rail - stumbled across old post regarding CRPD but sellers said otherwise.

Why would a PD issue ten round mags? I don't recall Cedar Rapids issuing stainless Smith 40's.

There were 4043 pistols used by Cedar Rapids PD beginning around 1991/92 which were apparently traded in or sold to Sportsmans Outdoors Superstore which resold them as Police Trade-Ins for $449 incl shipping with 1 mag - no date but it still comes up in search but Sold Out.

Leaning toward ConRail PD based on SCSW Rev 4 info - supposedly 315 4043s were sold to ConRail PD along with or after a batch of 681s in 38 Special - all of which were marked CRPD. "Special" appears to be Night Sights - same 108529 Product Code as other observed PD pistols with Night Sights and 108529 Code vs 108528 Novak Sights.

As to the 10 rd mags - that does not make sense to me if they were Law Enforcement, but 10 vs 11 - not a big difference and if they were Con Rail, would a private Railroad Police Force qualify as exempt from 10 rd limit especially spread over multiple Northeastern states?

SCSW page 434 says "CRPD for Con Rail Police Dept. 315 are known marked; slight premium." Standard Production Code is 108528. 108529 might be specific to the ConRail guns and you may want to add a note/post the SCSW 5th Generation forum.

FWIW, I’d try contacting the Firearms Training Section of those departments and see what you can come up with.
Most firearms instructors are good guys and I bet they’ll be willing to verify what pistols they used.

I have seen 108529 Product Code on 4043 several times - I think all had Night Sights and all marked "Special", but not 100% certain. 108529 includes Memphis PD, New Brunswick PD, and a couple of unmarked 4043s box end marked "Special" with Night Sights, and one with an odd Spec Ord 5686. My CRPD is Spec Ord 6751

ConRail was a Pennsylvania based company, their headquarters were in Philadelphia. We never had specific mag restrictions with the exception of the 1994 AWB ones. I would assume they would have the same exemptions as any LEO organization, since they had full police power on their properties.

Good question though.

I guess short of a letter we'd be guessing. IIRC the 681's that Conrail bought were shipped to a dealer in the metro Philly area. I would think (and again, just a WAG here) that the 4043's would have been shipped to the same FFL.

It would be nice to know, as if I could find one like ACEd posted, in the original case, I would buy it for sure.
