Been kicking around the idea of a new one as I think it's next up on the Lipseys line up.

But stopped in at a good gun shop on my way home from a fishing trip & found this 625-6 on consignment.

Came with a handy Double Diamond chest rig as well.

The sights have been upgraded to Trijicon and I like the full size Altamont laminated grips with S&W medallions

Nice! That was a lucky find. Congratulations it’s beautiful.

I was in the same boat, but I was hoping for a .45acp MG.

Some one brought in a .45acp MG a .45Colt MG and a .45 acp model of 1989.

I bought both .45acps, couldn’t justify the Colt MG.

Now I’m hoping for a 627 MG.

Even if they release new MG in .45, I think you and I are better off with the old ones. I really didn’t care for the TGW grips or brass bead sights. The old ones have smoother actions, and better sights.

I can tell the previous owner was a heavy bullet defensive carry guy. That tall front sight & rear sight completely bottomed out are dead give aways 😆
 
I'm going to shoot it tomorrow with some powder-puff loads leftover from the 45C in the Colt SAA.

Will report after action
 
Congratulations, that was a nice consignment find! The previous owner added some great accessories, and the leather Double Diamond chest rig is one of the best you can buy for traipsing the woods and streams.

Agree.

The more I look it over I see how well thought out his improvements were. I'm sure this gun was carried in big bear country. As I'm in Griz territory myself it's a good rig.

Think I'll order up the Montana Bullet Works Hardcast 285 Keith's and break out the big jug of 2400

Wonderful guns. I picked up my 625-6 Mountain Gun about four years ago, and it's the most accurate Smith I own. Mine came with N round butt Combats already installed. I have some HSM 325 gr. Bear Loads that I will not use in it (anymore, I fired 2 and I'm done) unless it's an actual Bear emergency. I now have a matching 629 Mountain Gun to go with it.
 
Well I have one with the firing pin in the frame (but pre-lock) but I have one I built long before Mountain guns came out - it is a converted M-28 with a 1950 target barrel - it has a spare cylinder for .45 Auto-Rim. 3.9" barrel.

Found some hardcast bullets in my stash marked 255 grain SWC-GC with a Brinell 22 hardness. They actually weight 262. I'll start with those & use data for the 260 lead.

Should handle any local troublemakers running 1000 fps, hopefully recoil isn't over the top.

In my 625-6 .45 Colt I load 255gr lead with 9.1 gr of Unique. That's about the limit of "pleasant" power for me when spending a day at the range. Anything heavier has to go in my Ruger Blackhawk.

I just recently picked up a model 25 Classic in .45 Colt. Maybe I have a problem...
 
I'm looking for 1000 fps & decent accuracy, and manageable recoil.

I definitely want a controllable load for follow up shots as needed
 
41, a Mo case “Kieth” 250, and 9.5 grains of CFE is my 45 Colt cast load.

That load runs 975 (chronoed, not guessed). I shoot a big new 4 inch Anaconda. Recoil is mild. Accuracy is 5/6 under 2 inches at 25 yards. (I usually spoil an otherwise good group, so I count 5 out of 6 nowadays) Extreme spreads and standard deviations are quite good.

The Colt 45 case is a very good combustion chamber, in my opinion.
 
The starting load @16.5 of 2400 got me 945 fps with the 262 grainer.

Recoil was definitely present ES not especially good like 95 fps over 12 shots
