I don't recall the specific stats, but remember reading where the number of times someone was actually prosecuted for lying on the 4473 was minuscule. In theory, every NICS denial could have resulted in at least an investigation if not charges.

That's true but, as we know, unless somebody is trying to make a political example out of it - there are few consequences for breaking the law in modern America.
A common sense ruling on Marijuana and its use including THC products and firearms ownership is long overdue. THC and Marijuana have medicinal uses from sleep disorders, pain relief, relaxation, treating the effects of PTSD and others.
After dealing with the bottom of society for 32 years, I can tell you our biggest problem is mental health. The addictions stem from that and it is the main problem. People abuse everything from alcohol to food to try and feel better. Misuse of anything is not good.
I have never encountered a violent Marijuana user but have had numerous violent encounters with people on alcohol.

Remember when one person in the office didn't like the smell of perfume so nobody was allowed to use it? Or in the Bay area maybe 1000 folks with breathing problems caused way over a quarter million people, some100 miles away, the use of a wood stove to heat their homes? I bought an $800 Jotul in 1983 and it was so efficient that there was zero smoke. Never had to have the chimney cleaned regardless of the wood. Been this way since about 1990. The county of Sonoma is banning the installation of natural gas stoves and water heaters because of the climate change folks (or war on CO2, the single most important gas on the planet). This will mean if a "Planned electrical shut down" or fire, folks with electric stoves and water heaters can't cook or have hot water. PG&E is right now having these shut downs because they've let the infrastructure deteriorate for profit. This is how they sneak up and steal your freedom a spoonful at a time...

In my youth (or “Yute” if you remember Joe Pesci in “My Cousin Vinnie”) it was called a “contact high”. Any concert you attended you could probably get one. You didn’t personally smoke it, but you reaped the benefits of those smoking next to you.
Videos of drunk idiots shooting their guns abound on the interweb. Don’t remember seeing one where the people were smoking pot.
Elected officials get too much lobbying money from the alcohol industry and therefore continue to vote for marijuana to stay illegal at the federal level. States realized the it was unrealized tax money and have legalized it for medical use or recreational use or both. The conflict I see is that the feds may (or can, or want to) obtain the records of those with medical marijuana cards as part of a 4473 background check. To me it would be a violation of HIPPA privacy regulations to release your medical records in this case; unless !of course, they pulled everyone’s records to evaluate what their taking or using. Funny how they’re only concerned with There are too many drugs out that impair your judgement. Are you taking an opioid based pain killer like Acetaminophen Hydrochloride when you fill out your form? You just lied if you said “no” to the drug question. (IMHO)
The section begins with “are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to…”. To that I ask “today?”. Two weeks ago? A year ago? What’s the timeframe for being a user?
It’s about time we let go of the “refer madness” BS and the notion of it being termed a gateway drug, You’re doctor prescribes heavier and more addictive drugs. Are we about to the point of letting your doctor know that you own and buy firearms so that he prescribes the appropriate drugs (according to red rules) ?
I’d rather see stiff consequences for those who use firearms while impaired.

For several years I worked with a CNC tech that used assorted dope. He would get stoned after work and on weekends. I usually found somewhere else to be around the hotels. One night in S. Chicago we were headed back to hotel about 1:30 at night with him driving rental car. Cop pilled us over and he freaked out pulling couple bags of weed and pills out of his jacket and throwing them under front seat. Officer came up and asked for out Ids. He came back and asked, why is car registered in Ohio and you all are from Va? We explained we were working and was rental car. He went back to his car for about 10 minutes and came back. Said " this is going to cost you all $100". We told him sure who do we make the travelers checks out to as we had no cash. He got Po'ed and said " I better not see you all again" and went back to his car and drove off. I told the tech he best never carry all that crap out at night again. We were just bar hopping....

They certainly seem to enjoy driving high.
I thought when they legalized it, people would stop smoking it and use edibles. But apparently not. Also this new stuff stinks.

I approve of any decision that reverses the degradation of our rights into privileges.

My son is an expert on marijuana and the weed they smoke now is lot different that the stuff going around when we were young. I can't compare the two, but I'd bet the strongest new MJ is close. It may even come from the same variety found in Vietnam.
I just looked it up and 'Godfather OG' has a THC concentration of 34-35%!
There's other strong stuff with names like 'Triple Burger', 'Alien OG' and get this..... 'Bruce Banner'.

Alcohol is present often in domestic abuse. Meth present in car wrecks and so on.
Alcohol is water soluable, it is out of the blood tomorrow. MJ stays in the blood a month and affects judgment.
The federal crime/restriction was about daily use and addiction. Probably a bad ruling. The crime should be about having it in your blood, not your glove box.

I was there 5/66 to 5/67 there was very little smoking of MJ at that time. CID was all over this and guys were going to LBJ. By 69-70 it was out of control. There was also raw opium for about $30 for a wad the size of a golf ball and plenty of generic opium and amphetamine sold over the counter "Obesatol?" .It was after all, next door to the biggest producers of opium and heroin in the world.
Dope now isn't the Oaxacan buttwipe it was in the 60s, where you threw away all the stems and seed and smoked what's left all day long. This stuff now is refined and trimmed into buds that are pure. Northern Calif, finest. One hit or maybe 2 and you are lit up for an hour or 2. Nothing in the world is even close. I haven't touched it for 20 years and never used it during the day but a couple of hits before retiring with a beautiful woman makes it pretty nice, no, very very nice.
We raced a HD at Bonneville for 10 years in the 70s and would bring a nice bag of shake, the trim off MJ, to Wendover for the cocktail waitresses. Until I found out that in Nevada you could get 5 years for possession of seeds. So that stopped. But in Wendover there were more cops than in any city I know of but it was a free country in the 70s and you had to do something stupid before they bothered you. The police couldn't just stop you and spoil your life for nothing like now.
Becouse in the 60-70s the military brass knew if they kicked out the pot smokers they would lose 70% or more of the less than 4 years in troops. Almost all of the young and intelligent active duty I knew in those times didn't really want to be there, and drank and smoked too much.
Then we grew up.
I'm proud to be drug free & sober for over half my life now.

The Supreme Court did NOT say that getting high and using a gun is legal, any more than they said getting drunk as a skunk and doing the same is legal. They said that the fact that you occasionally get high -- be it on weed, alcohol, or whatever -- is not a ban to gun ownership.

You make a great point about the tax revenue. Prices in the legal stores are so outrageous that most people still purchase from their “connection”. Obviously getting some tax revenue but not anywhere near what they anticipated. Great post by the way. Very informative.

Me too. I worked on “dry” reservations where my criminals were always drinking or drunk.
I went to some hand-wringing meeting about the high crime rate on Indian Reservations, and I said I should get a bunch of weed that the feds had confiscated and put it in “free to a good home” buckets on street corners. The crime rate would plummet since my usual crooks would be home getting high instead of driving off the rez to bring back booze and then getting hammered and reliving old grievances.
