Question on which mag springs for a 3953. Midway has them for Product #: 137610 - assuming these are factory specific? But when I look at the Wolff Springs website, they have two versions. One for newer models and one for older model 3953s. They indicate for the older models, "Note: For Early models with plain end coils only". So I'm not sure which version I have. I opened up the magazines and they have a black plastic plate that has the little plunger under the base pad. Under the black plastic plate, it is just the spring. Any thoughts on what the old vs new is supposed to look like? Or maybe I'll just order from Midway.

Factory S&W part number 201650000 is correct for all variants of the M3953 including the TSW versions.
In fact that red spring from Midway, #201650000 is the correct part for every model 39 variant including the Chief Specials.
That would be every one of the single stack metal frame 9mm guns from the original M39 onward.

I would not use anything published on the Wolff site as a guide for determining correct parts.

Cheers
Bill

I'm the reason for the different spring descriptions. A few years ago I had an early 3953 and they sent me the wrong one because they didn't know there was a difference. Neither did I. I sent them back and they sent me the right ones and they changed the description. First time I had ever had that issue, but it was also the first time I had such an early model. Trust the Wolff site now that they have differentiated them.

I have an early 3914 (Oct-1989) & one of the last 3914DAO (Jun-2015) made and they both have the same style magazine springs & both are original.

They are the ones where the end loops are the same and the spring can be installed either end up or down. In Wolff's terminology " plain end coils".

With that, I don't know why Wolff makes a second version (#73061) of the spring with the top coil angled up about 45 degrees. (pic below)

When I've used that second type I've straightened out that angle & they've worked fine. 🤷

Thanks Bluedot. I have two 3953s and the springs in the mags for both are like that red one with the "plain end coils". So I'll stick with those.
Thanks for the pics, that helps!

I've only used the springs with the red ends and I thought that the red ends were supposed to go into the follower. Or does it not matter.
