Ice Cream Question

So, I'm not losing my mind (about ice cream)! I picked up 2 containers of Friendly's on sale for < $4 apiece and something called Blue Bunny for about a dollar more. I got the Blue part right, but that was about it. My quest for good grocery store ice cream may be a lost cause, but I'm dedicated now!
Now to find a local butcher, a REAL butcher, that sells good beef, etc. Shop N Save has this gawd awful Mexican beef. It looks good but it's terrible. Tough and tasteless.
 
Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Cherry Garcia for me.

I top with a spoonful of hot fudge sauce. Eat entire pint at one setting. Yep!

PS: I like the hard consistency of Ben and Jerry’s. I hold the pint under running water for about 15 seconds. Much easier to “drop” out of the carton into a bowl. Yes, a bowl; not straight out of the carton. Do I look like an animal? 🙄

I lied. Truth be told I ALWAYS travel with a metal spoon in my dop kit so as to eat ice cream direct from the carton when necessary. 😂

OMG 😲 don't get me started 😆 I am fortunate to live in Oklahoma. Allow me to explain. We've already went over one of the food groups, ice cream 🍦 😋 I live literally 8 miles away from my rancher/butcher. They raise the cattle and butcher it. My visit last week i got ribeyes that were literally butchered and packaged that day. Eggs, I get my eggs 🥚 from a lady that is 3 miles away. You can literally taste the difference in fresh local food and there is something about knowing where it comes from. Don't give up there are ranchers and farmers everywhere .

I like Blue Bell as well as any.
I want it as hard as I can dig out of the carton and kind of chip off bites with my spoon.
I bought Talenti Gelato for a while but the store quit carrying their triple chocolate.
 
When I ate Ice Cream the brand I liked the most was the Publix Black container. I have not had Ice Cream in almost 4 years but my wife says the new green container in Publix is the old Black container. When I gave ice cream up it was hard - but now I don't give a hoot and my craving for it has long since past. I was incapable of eating a normal sized portion - I'd eat half the container in one sitting - lol. My standard desert is now fresh berries and fresh whipped cream - much healthier and I do enjoy it.

The two I did not care for much were Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Daz. They were just TOO sugary for my taste!
I do not have Diabetes but don't want it either. A1-C is 4.5 and that's where I want it to stay.
 
I guess the thing I miss the most about ice cream from my youth is actually getting a full half-gallon in a half-gallon container! It's ridiculous how much smaller a container of ice cream has gotten.
 
I was surprised to see Tillamook rated #1 in an earlier post. I have tried it three times and found it to be mediocre at best. We're fortunate to have a locally made ice cream that is over the moon good, Uncle Bob's. $10 per quart and worth every penny.

I used to like Ben and Jerry's but it no longer "occupies" any space in my home. I might look to see if that Blue Bell is sold around here.

I am allergic to Carrageenan so have to be very careful getting ice cream. Causes violent diarrhea. It kind of sucks because ice cream is my favorite treat but we all have to deal with something. Homemade ice cream freezes hard to it has to be the additives.

Back to Blue Bell, about the only producer who actually still puts a half gallon of ice cream in a half gallon container.
 
Aldi super premium vanilla or chocolate. 5 ingredients Cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla and skim milk. Try it!

how do I remember shotgun chokes - for me ice cream - full, modified, improved, cylinder. :D

I used to love making ice cream starting when I was a kid. We had a hand crank churn that we would all take turns at until it was done. Later on, we got a fancy electric one, but the whole ice and rock salt thing became something of a chore.

A few years ago, I happened upon a Cuisinart ice cream maker at a garage sale and picked it up for $10. It gets fairly regular use with a variety of recipes. Yesterday, I just made Reese’s cup and fudge ice cream. We don’t buy store bought ice cream anymore, and the homemade stuff is a 3-4 times per month indulgence. Sometimes I think it’s the best ten bucks I’ve ever spent😉

Tillamook first and then Haagen Dazs.

Absolutely love Tillamook vanilla with a dollop of St. Dalfour black cherry jam,
a French jam on sour side and not for kiddies,
