Very nice. These are great little revolvers. I have one in .32. Like all things these days, prices are up. I don't think you did too bad.

That's a beauty! could very well be a very early post war.
Here's a few serial numbers near yours with confirmed shipping dates:
54475 1948
54804 RP with RB and four inch barrel, shipped in July 1951, David’s
54915 Terrier, 6 screw, Post War Transitional Model 12/20/49
Does it have a four line address on the right side of frame?
Does it have the post war sliding bar hammer block? You can see move up and down in the hammer channel when you cock and lower the hammer slowly.

With that knob on the ejector rod, it has to be very early post war… they didn’t last long afterwards. As for the price, around here I would expect to pay that or $100 more for a similar example. I’ve been chasing that revolver’s shorter barreled brethren for the last year of so (the Terriers) and have seen their prices go up significantly. I’d say you’re getting a good desirable model at a good price.

Thanks for the info! 4 line address so, I'm guessing, a post war frame. The S/N is either 54532 or 54632, looks to me like the third number was lightly stamped.
I don't have it in hand yet and will take a look for the hammer block when it gets in. I am really looking forward to getting this one home!

I like that gun. I've been looking for a nice RP for awhile. I actually have a "fake" one, probably a Khyber Pass copy. I also like the avatar. The GAU-8, used exclusively in the A-10. I maintained and loaded that gun in the 70s and the 90s. It's a beast!

I couldn't agree more about the GAU 8. I've got a dummy round somewhere signed by the Thunderbolt west coast demo team. The casing is for a DU round, with the bullet machined from aluminum. I'll have to find it!
Is this what is referred to as a "Pre Model 33"? I think you did good as far as the purchase price.

That is one rare gun and you really got a deal.
Not a pre model 33, that would be 3 evolutions later when the 1953 New I frame was introduced for the .22/32, 32 & 38 S&W.
Officially it's identified by collectors as a .38 S&W Ctg. Regulation Police Post war Transitional Model. They're virtually a pre war gun except for the 4 line address rollmark and the post war hammer block, (although I've seen one with the pre war hammer block).
Transitional models are few but yours is even more special, it has only one post war exterior part, the cyl release thumbpiece. It still has the barrel shaped extractor rod knob and pre war Service grips with the square cornered checkering border, lines per inch, and flat flush silver medallions.
