Interesting old cleaning kit

Years ago someone gave me this gun cleaning kit and I forgot about it. Dug it out the other day and went through it… it’s really cool!
The solvent is empty ( probably evaporated) but otherwise I think it’s complete. Doesn’t look like it was used much, I thought it was really interesting so I thought I would share…

Regardless of what came in those tin flat boxes, I kept all I could find (yard sales and such) and made kits to do a specific project with.

One has the Lee giant nutcracker loading press and all the tools to load ammo away from home in it. I keep a spare 45 ACP die set in it at all times, but a die swap and I'm good to go all the way up to 458 Win Mag! For a scale, I keep a digital scale from a dope dealer I evicted (without batteries installed) in it. There is room for a few hundred primers and an Altoid tin of bullets for whatever die set I have with it. [If you use 30 Caliber Ammo cans, you have room for a small bottle of powder & a bullet mold too]

I have that same kit! Mine still has oil & solvent, looks like they never used it (didn't shoot much or just had a dirty gun?). Somehow, I seem to have stumbled into collected old cleaning kits because I have several others, Marbles, Outers, Hoppes, Sears and a couple others. Also have a lot of the old military field kits. Most don't seem to be worth much, used to get them brought into the store when people were selling off dads or grandpas guns and they normally just sat on a shelf. Would sell one once in a while, some of them we used for cleaning used guns. When we closed the store I packed them all home since no one else wanted them. Have gotten a few since then as well.

I only have this one older cleaning kit, just kept it because I thought it was interesting. Collecting them would probably be interesting

Actually, it is interesting. All the different labeled chemicals & supplies in the kits, the instructions can make interesting reading (especially how just about every kit touts there stuff as "the best you can buy!"). A number of them have different threads on the tools so if you need to replace one you had to buy from them or nowadays figure out who made it for them. The Marbles kits have rather different jags and are all brass unlike the majority of the kits. I don't have a Stoeger kit but one of the kits I have came with a bottle of "Stoegeroil" which declares it can be used for "cleaning, oiling and rust prevention", sort of an old time version of CLP.

The various military cleaning tools can be quite interesting too. Often have little attachments for specific guns such as bore guides as well as pieces to turn those under barrel cleaning rods into a full on rod w/handle for easier use.
 
I used to collect vintage cleaning kits - focusing on Marbles. I also have a few Sears, Outers and Hoppes brand. Some of the Mables are NIB and haven't been used. Probably mostly from the 1950's era. I still have a half dozen or so on a shelf.

It seems like they would be an interesting thing to collect
 
I have what is essentially the same kit, but perhaps a little older. I got it for Christmas 1962 and still have it. And, believe it or not, still use it...at least the cleaning rod. Solvent and oil have long since been gone, but there's still grease in the tube. Found another one exactly like it at a second hand store. Of course, I bought it. The can of solvent was still full. :D

The set is complete. (IIRC)

I'd like to 'move it on' but shipping with the liquids might be problematic. PM me if you have an interest in adding this to a collection.

Mine are not as pretty as yours. I do have a few that are NIB. Oil cans are getting hard to find around here,

I used to collect old time cleaning kits. Yours was probably made by Outer's. Outer's often made cleaning kits for other businesses besides marketing them with their own name.
 
I use to collect oil cans. Would buy old cleaning sets to get the oil cans out of them. I have about 50 old cleaning kits stored away and about 20 or so that are seldom seen or just to nice to rob stuff out of them. The real nice ones are out on the shelves in one of my gun rooms where they can be seen. The Daisy BB Gun Cleaning Kit is the only one that I have ever seen.
